Duration: 2 hours, 30 minutes
Cancellation: 1 day learn more
Highlights
  • Talkeetna - You will be picked up in downtown Talkeetna by our shuttle, and driven out to the kennel by a knowledgeable guide.

After arriving at the kennel, watch as your team of dogs are hooked up to one of our dryland mushing rigs or the 6 seat ATV preferred training method for long distance races.

You will then take off, following or riding with one of our experienced mushing guides, on a 45-minute mush through our beautiful, private, heavily-forested racing trails.

Halfway through the mush, your group will arrive at a checkpoint and give the canines a short water break. This a great time to snap some photos with your dog team.

After your team has cooled off, we will prepare for the 20 minute mush back to the kennel.

Back in the kennel, get a picture with your team and give them a final pat before walking through the kennel and learning all about how these world-class athletes live, play, and train, from puppy to retiree.

Walk with the dogs, or just have a seat and snuggle a puppy in our giant run pen.

You can visit the gift shop and check out Dallas Seavey’s Iditarod trophy display before heading back to Talkeetna.

Additional Information

This is the only place in Alaska where you can mush your own team of dogs in the summer!

This is not a just a tour kennel; it is the training grounds and homestead of 4-time Iditarod champion, Dallas Seavey. All the dogs are either retired racing dogs (many have won the Iditarod), are currently on the race team, or are the next generation in training to become the next great champions! Our dogs are active and training year-round. As a guest musher here, you become part of Dallas Seavey Racing’s year-round training program.

The group size for this experience is usually 6 or less people, with a guide assigned to each group, creating a very personal experience.

All of our dogs are extremely friendly, and love attention. Cuddle puppies, romp with young dogs, or walk with champions.

Well worth the visit - Super experience visiting AK Dog Sleds. Amelia gave us a great introduction to dog sledding, the care for the dogs, the history of the transportation system, and the opportunity to spend time with some of the kennel. Not touristy or over done. Just people sharing their passion for the dogs and the sport.

Best thing ever! - Amazing experience! The staff were great, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience great and memorable . Can’t recommend this experience enough. Even though we were there on a rainy day, it was one of the best experiences we had on our trip to Alaska. Hope to go back and do it on snow!!!

Last minute booking turned out to be so fun and unforgettable! - We could not have been more pleased with our experience with AK sled dogs! What a unique opportunity to see the dogs love for racing, get to know more about their kennel and what it’s like during the Iditarod. As soon as we were finished, we wanted to do it again!

A must-do while in Alaska - This was an awesome experience for our family. Sam, the tour guide was fantastic and you could tell that she loves the dogs and what she does. Mark and Sara were also a great part of their team and provided us with a wealth of information about mushing and how the dogs are trained. We would highly recommend this activity to anyone when they are in Alaska. What a once in a lifetime experience.

Favorite Alaskan Activity! - This was the kids’ favorite activity on the entire trip! We traveled with two families and a total of 5 kids ages 8-14. Everyone - adults too - loved the kennel and mushing. Running in an enclosed field with the puppies was our kids’ absolute favorite part. The guides were friendly and very knowledgeable. We would recommend this wholeheartedly.

A dog lover’s dream - This was such a fun experience! The dogs are so adorable and friendly. It’s really amazing to see how excited and hyper they get when they know they’re about to run, and then the immediate focus they go into once they start. I highly recommend this for any dog lover. After the sledding they brought us around the kennels, introducing us to many of the dogs and letting us have some play time with the little puppies! We also got to meet two reindeer!

So much fun/ - What an amazing experience we had mushing our team of dogs. These dogs are so well behaved and LOVE what they do. Our guides were knowledgeable and friendly, we learned so much about the Iditarod race and what it takes to succeed in this event. It was fabulous.

great adventure for everyone, young and old - This was the quintessential Alaskan experience. It started with an introduction to the dogs in the kennel and the history of the Iditarod (the owner is a past winner!). Then we jumped in our carts for ride through the forest being pulled by 4 dogs each. One person sits and the other person guides, steers and stops the dogs. You can trade off during one of the breaks. It ended with a visit to see the new puppies! If you need a "dog fix" this is your adventure!
