A brief orientation by our guide covers hotel policies, followed by a rejuvenating lunch and a two-hour guided walk through the tropical forest, unveiling medicinal plants and ancient trees like the Brazil nut, CHACRUNA, and AYAHUASCA.

The adventure continues with a visit to the 45-meter-high bird-watching tower, providing wildlife sightings. Return to the Lodge by sunset and embark on nocturnal activities along the Tambopata River, seeking caimans, owls, and the elusive Capybara. Clear nights offer a celestial spectacle, allowing guests to stargaze and marvel at the Milky Way, constellations, and shooting stars—a perfect end to an immersive day in the Tambopata National Reserve.

Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick - Spotting Wildlife

Tambopata National Reserve - Commence your day with coffee or tea before a thrilling journey to the macaw and parrot clay lick. At dawn, a 45-minute boat ride along the Tambopata River offers potential wildlife sightings. Witness the mesmerizing spectacle of parrots and macaws at Chuncho clay lick, enjoying a two-hour session and a delightful breakfast.

Post-morning adventure, explore small river branches for wildlife encounters. In the afternoon, return to the city, drive 15 minutes to Yacumama lake for a scenic sunset. This lake is a habitat for various birds, black caimans, piranhas, and river otters. Engage in eco-friendly piranha fishing, then return to the hotel by boat at dusk for a well-deserved rest.

Lake Sandoval

Lago Sandoval - Embark on a morning adventure to the Sandoval Lake within Tambopata National Reserve, exploring a 4 km wooden path surrounded by vibrant fauna. Witness the lake’s unparalleled biodiversity, featuring black caimans, giant otters, herons, turtles, monkeys, macaws, and wild ducks. Return to the lodge before noon for a satisfying lunch.

In the afternoon, delve into the “Matsigenka” culture by visiting a native family. Engage in cultural immersion, learning to use bows and arrows, spin and weave cotton for traditional clothing (Cushma), and craft ropes from plant bark. Witness their unique fire-making techniques using hands. Return to the lodge, soaking in the sunset.

As dusk falls, embark on an enchanting nocturnal wildlife exploration. Armed with flashlights, venture into the trails to spot porcupines, sloths, arachnids, insects, reptiles, opossums, night monkeys, owls, and more. Conclude the day with a hearty dinner at the hotel before a well-deserved rest.

Monkey Island, Canopy Walk

Tambopata National Reserve - After breakfast and rest, explore Monkey Island on the Madre de Dios River, encountering various monkey species and possibly spotting sloths and turtles. Return to the hotel before noon.

In the afternoon, take a boat to a canopy experience among trees over 700 years old. Bridges spanning 400 meters offer a rare view of the ecosystem with toucans, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, monkeys, lizards, orchids, and epiphytes.

Following a delicious lunch, the adventure continues with a kayaking expedition along the Madre de Dios River. Paddle near the banks for wildlife sightings like turtles, white caimans, kingfishers, herons, and, with luck, an anaconda. Life jackets are provided for this thrilling experience.

Better than what I wanted - This was my second time in the Amazon. I had been to the Amazon jungle in Manu. Tambopata has its own charm. The place is surreal, way too deeper and offers the opportunity to spot more animals and birds. The tour leader was very nice and fun to be with. The lodges and food they served were also outstanding.

They picked me up and dropped me back to the airport in Puerto Maldonado. I wrote to them many mails to know details about the trip and Hilda was very attentive and responded promptly with details.
