The Kasbah Museum, or the Kasbah Museum of Mediterranean Cultures, has been housed since 1922 in the Kasbah Palace, “Dar-Al-Makhzen” or the Sultan’s Palace. It was home to Portuguese governors “Dorons Praefecti” from 1471 to 1661, then a larger “Upper Castle” for English governors from 1662 to 1684.

The synagogue ceased activity in the late 20th century and fell into disrepair until its restoration in 1994. It now serves as a museum.
