We’ll soak in the charm of the decorated alleyways, rich in history and beauty, offering a glimpse into the past and the architectural style of the old town. We’ll pass by the fortress of Tangier’s Kasbah, pause at the Kasbah Museum, and see several gates of the old medina such as Bab Bhar, Bab Assa, and Bab Marsa. We’ll also visit the tomb of the famous traveler Ibn Battuta, April 9th Square, which serves as a border between the new neighborhood and the old Medina, and the main square of Zoco Chico ‘Souk Dakhel’ among other sites.
We’ll also immerse ourselves in the local culture, including traditional Moroccan cuisine, by having lunch at a restaurant in the main square and exploring the typical markets (souks) where local farmers, artisans, and merchants display a variety of handmade items.
-
Parc Perdicaris - We’ll stop to appreciate the natural beauty of Perdicaris Park, located in the most beautiful and upscale neighborhood of Tangier, ‘Jbel Lekbir’. It offers stunning sea views and has a fascinating story that I’ll share once we’re there.
-
Cap Spartel - We’ll visit Cap Spartel, which marks the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar and the unique meeting point of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean in Morocco. We’ll also see the historic lighthouse built in 1864, a landmark in Tangier.
-
Achakar - Get ready for some adventure as we enjoy a camel ride on the beach of Achakar!
-
Caves of Hercules - The Caves of Hercules are a major tourist attraction with two entrances: a natural one shaped like the map of Africa and a manmade one through which we’ll enter. Legend has it that this was Hercules’ last resting place after completing one of his twelve labors assigned by King Eurystheus. The cave was also used by the Berbers (the indigenous people of Morocco) as a quarry for making grinding millstones.
