Discovering Tangier: A Family Adventure

When I first heard about the Tangier Highlights tour, I knew it was something my family and I had to experience. As a travel writer and a mom of three, I’m always on the lookout for activities that are both educational and entertaining for the whole family. Our guide, Don Nizar, was exceptional. His knowledge of the city’s history and culture was impressive, and he spoke excellent English, which made the tour even more enjoyable. He tailored the experience to our interests, focusing on the culinary delights of the Socco. We visited spice shops, tasted fresh olives, and learned about the ingredients used in traditional Moroccan dishes. The highlight was a traditional lunch of couscous and lamb tahini, which was simply fabulous.

A Journey Through History

After lunch, we explored the historic sites of Tangier, starting with the majestic Tangier Casbah. The fortress offered stunning views over the city and the sea, and the blend of Moroccan and Andalusian architecture was captivating. We then visited the Moshe Nahon Synagogue, an important cultural and historical site that highlights Tangier’s rich Jewish heritage. The kids were intrigued by the beautiful architecture and the stories of the synagogue’s history.

Our final stop was the Tangier American Legation Museum, where we learned about the longstanding connection between Morocco and the United States. The exhibits were fascinating, and it was a great way to end our day of exploration. As we made our way back to the port, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience such a diverse and vibrant city with my family. Tangier had truly captured our hearts, and we left with a newfound appreciation for its rich history and culture.
