Highlights
  • Eastern Royal Tombs of the Qing Dynasty - Begin your day with a knowledgeable guide picking you up from your hotel in the morning to explore the captivating Eastern Qing Tombs. The Qing Dynasty, the last imperial dynasty of China, was established by the Manchus from the northeast. Their burial sites are constructed to surpass the grandeur of the Ming Dynasty’s tombs. Witness the exquisite stone sculptures and the influence of Tibetan Buddhism at Emperor Qianlong’s resting place, the extravagant opulence in the crypt of the infamous yet powerful Empress Dowager Cixi, and the extensive looting of the tombs by warlords in the 1920s that has drawn public interest.

The Eastern Qing Tombs are less frequented due to their greater distance from the Ming Tombs, offering a tranquil atmosphere for delving into history.

Enjoy a comfortable 2 to 2.5-hour drive from Beijing to the Eastern Qing Tombs and be returned to your hotel post-tour.

Please be aware: The area around the Tombs lacks quality dining options, with only a few local eateries that may not meet standards of taste and cleanliness. It is recommended that you bring your own pre-prepared fast food or snacks for lunch.

Excellent experience - Worthwhile trip, esp. for a fan of Chinese history and Qing dynasty. You could find your self surrounded by signature Ming/ Qing architecture resembling that of Forbidden City apart from its quite and less people. Rita, our private tour guide, is really nice to acompany us most of the journey with interesting history stories in the Emperor Qianlong and Empress CiXi Tombs. A little pity to not be able to visit Emperor Kangxi Tombs (ticket available but we were not aware to buy in advance). Overall the tour is super nice and highly recommend for anyone who could spend a full day extra in Beijing/ Tianjin (beside visiting Forbidden City and Great Wall).

Incredible - This trip was really worth our time. It was a long drive (2 hours) but the tombs and the area was breathtaking! Rita from Catherine Lu Tours was a very lovely guide, who was very knowledgeable and a pleasant person. She told us everything, even small details which we really liked! We recommend this tour if you like buildings and history similar to the forbidden city and this is just as interesting as that!

Long trip out but worth it, get out of Beijing for the day! - I wanted to visit the Tombs without including a visit to the Wall, so this visit delivered that. I was met by Kim, who was great. It was an early start and my driver whisked us out to the Tombs. Once there I enjoyed a crowd-less, detailed tour of a number of tombs. Not all are open and many are similar so the ones you see cover the main tombs worth visiting. Kim supplied lots of details about the history, individuals buried there and background. The 5th Emperors tomb is the most impressive and learning about the Dragon Lady, will make you wonder, good or bad!
