After an early breakfast, embark on a full-day game drive at Tarangire National Park with picnic lunches. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Sun Bright Campsite. This park is known for its herds of up to 300 elephants that dig the dry riverbed for underground streams, while nomadic wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest, and eland gather around the shrinking lagoons. It boasts the highest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem, making it a haven for predators. It’s also the only place in Tanzania where you can regularly see dry-country antelope like the stately fringe-eared oryx and the peculiar long-necked gerenuk. This park serves as a refuge for migratory animals during the dry season and is home to a variety of species.

After breakfast, continue towards the fertile highlands where the Iraqw people cultivate wheat, coffee, and corn. Passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you’ll witness the breathtaking expanse of the Ngorongoro Caldera, formed by a volcanic explosion three million years ago, before heading to Serengeti National Park. Known as ‘Endless Plain’ in Maa, the language of the Maasai, the Serengeti is Tanzania’s largest park, featuring diverse landscapes such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah, and mountains. Depending on the season, you may witness the great wildebeest and zebra migration as they search for food and water. After an extensive game drive, you’ll head to Seronera Campsite for dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early coffee, set out for a game drive in the Serengeti, where you might spot the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. Then, journey to the Ngorongoro Crater. The animals roam freely through the unfenced reserves, offering an uninterrupted game viewing experience. Upon reaching the crater’s edge, you’ll get a preview of the next day’s adventure – glistening streams, open grasslands, and a multitude of animals. Spend the night at Simba Campsite on the crater’s edge, with the orange glow of sunset as your backdrop.

Early risers will be treated to stunning views of the sunrise over the crater’s edge. After a hearty breakfast, descend the adventurous track into the crater. This UNESCO World Heritage site, one of Africa’s seven wonders and one of the most incredible ecosystems on Earth, was formed millions of years ago by a massive volcanic explosion. The crater is 610 meters deep and spans roughly 260 square kilometers. With a dense animal population of about 25,000, it offers the best game viewing in Tanzania. In just a few minutes, you can see wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, elephants, and over 500 bird species. With some luck, you might even spot the endangered black rhino. After lunch, ascend the crater’s steep walls and head back to Arusha for an overnight stay.
