Departing from Arusha, travel by vehicle to the starting point of the Lemosho Trail at the Londorossi Gate. Approaching the mountain from the west, the Lemosho Route begins in the Afromontane Rainforest, the first of four ecological zones encountered on Kilimanjaro. Here, the rest of the team is met, and the journey begins at a relaxed pace, with opportunities to spot wildlife. Lunch is enjoyed on the trail, and the camp is reached by mid-afternoon. Overnight stay at Forest Camp.

Forest Camp to Moir Hut Camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - 9,498 ft to 11,500 ft, 5 miles, approximately 5-6 hours
From the forested slopes of Lemosho, ascend through a podocarpus and juniper forest, then emerge onto a zone of heather and lichen-covered volcanic rock and the Shira Plateau, which was once Kilimanjaro’s third peak before it collapsed. Lunch is taken on the trail, and arrival at camp is in the mid-afternoon. The view of Kibo (Kilimanjaro’s peak) is stunning from this location. Overnight stay at Moir Hut.

Moir Hut Camp - Kibo to Barranco Camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - 13,800 ft to 15,223 ft (Lava Tower), descending to 13,044 ft, 7km, 4-6 hours
From Moir, traverse the slopes of Kibo. In this zone, few plants or animals can endure the extreme temperature variations and conditions. Lunch is typically taken near a volcanic rock formation known as the Lava Tower. For those feeling strong, there is an optional climb of the 300-foot-tall Lava Tower before descending to Barranco Camp in the afternoon, passing through the unique and beautiful ‘Garden of the Senecios’ (giant groundsel), which also features many giant lobelias. The Barranco Valley is one of the most picturesque areas of the entire trail. Overnight stay at Barranco Camp.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - 13,044 ft to 13,123 ft, 3 miles, 4-5 hours
Today involves a relatively short trek to Karanga Camp, after tackling the challenging Barranco Wall. Be ready to use all four limbs to navigate the wall to the top of the Karanga Valley. From there, follow a path with various inclines and declines to Karanga Camp, arriving in the late afternoon. The choice of Karanga Camp is strategic, as spending significant time at altitude is crucial for safe acclimatization. Sunsets here are particularly stunning, with views of the southern glacial valleys and ice fields towering over 3000 feet above. Overnight stay at Karanga Camp.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - 15,288 ft to 19,341 ft to 12,467 ft, 3 miles ascent, 7 miles descent, 7-8 hours ascent, 4-6 hours descent
Today is another half-day ascent to Barafu Camp. Lunch is once again taken at this high camp, allowing ample time to relax before the summit attempt. The camp is situated in a desolate alpine desert, and strong winds are common, yet evenings offer magnificent views of Mawenzi Peak. An early dinner is followed by rest for the night. Overnight stay at Barafu Camp.

Barafu to the Summit to Mweka Camp
Kilimanjaro National Park - 12,467 ft to 5,380 ft, 6 miles, 3-4 hours
Depart just before midnight for the final summit attempt. Patience and perseverance are essential to reach the summit, as this is the coldest and windiest part of the journey. By dawn, as the first light appears over the Tanzanian landscape, arrive near the rim at Stella Point, at an altitude of 18,652 ft. Here, enjoy one of the most spectacular sunrises imaginable, appearing over Mawenzi Peak. Ascending via Stella Point provides a relatively short final stretch to Uhuru Peak, the Roof of Africa! Capture as many photos as possible! After a brief celebration at the summit, begin the joyful descent. Proceed slowly and savor the beautiful rainforest scenery on the way to Mweka Camp, arriving before dusk. Overnight stay at Mweka Camp.
Accommodations: Kilimanjaro Camping
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Kilimanjaro National Park - After breakfast, descend once more through the montane forest, and around midday, after bidding farewell to the crew, be picked up and transferred back to the hotel for a well-deserved shower and a celebratory dinner!
