A Journey into the Wild: The Serengeti, Ngorongoro & Tarangire Experience
The Call of the Wild
As a wildlife photographer, the call of Africa’s vast savannahs and the promise of witnessing the majestic Big Five in their natural habitat is an irresistible lure. This year, my heart was set on exploring the renowned Northern Circuit Parks of Tanzania. The 5-Day Safari was the perfect opportunity to immerse myself in the wild beauty of the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire. After a thrilling climb up Kilimanjaro, I was ready to embark on this new adventure.
The journey began in Arusha, where I was greeted by the warm and welcoming team from Safari Soles. Despite a hiccup with my flight to Seronera, the team handled the situation with grace and efficiency, ensuring my safari started without a hitch. As I boarded the plane, the anticipation of the days ahead filled me with excitement.
Into the Heart of the Serengeti
Upon landing in the Serengeti, I was met by Simon, affectionately known as ‘The Safari Monster.’ His reputation preceded him, and I was eager to see if he lived up to the name. From the moment we set off, it was clear that Simon’s knowledge of the terrain and its inhabitants was unparalleled. His passion for the wildlife and the land was infectious, and I found myself hanging onto his every word.
The Serengeti did not disappoint. On the second day, Simon’s keen eyes spotted a leopard lounging in the shade of an acacia tree. We approached cautiously, and I was able to capture some of the most breathtaking images of my career. Moments later, we encountered a cheetah, its sleek form a blur against the golden grass. Simon’s ability to find and share these incredible moments with other guides was a testament to his expertise and generosity.
Ngorongoro’s Hidden Wonders
Our journey continued to the Ngorongoro Crater, a place of unparalleled beauty and biodiversity. The crater’s lush landscape was a stark contrast to the open plains of the Serengeti, and it offered a new array of photographic opportunities. Here, I was able to document the interactions of various species, from the playful antics of zebras to the regal presence of lions.
Simon, ever the consummate guide, ensured that each day was filled with new discoveries. His stories of the land and its history added depth to the experience, making each sighting more meaningful. The Serena Lodges provided a comfortable retreat after long days of exploration, allowing me to reflect on the day’s adventures and prepare for the next.
As the safari came to a close, I was filled with a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to witness such raw and unspoiled beauty. The Northern Circuit Parks of Tanzania had left an indelible mark on my heart, and I knew I would return, camera in hand, to continue my journey of discovery and conservation.
