Thought you’ve experienced all there is to see after visiting Naples’ Archaeological Museum? You couldn’t be more mistaken.

Prepare to be awestruck by Taranto’s archaeological museum, MarTa, which boasts a stunning exhibition dedicated to Apulian Greek-Roman treasures. The exhibit features a broad collection, categorised by material type, that includes marble statues, monumental graves, soft stone carvings, necropolis pottery and gold work.

The guided tour includes a visit to the rooms housing marble statues and a separate room featuring sculptures, mosaics, and inscriptions from public and private edifices.

The tour then moves to the rooms focusing on necropolis pottery. The highlight of the museum, referred to as the ‘Golds of Taranto’, are largely from the town of Canosa di Puglia.

The journey concludes with a tour of the mosaics from the Roman patrician baths and villas, terracotta implements, and the exhibit of coins.
