New Year Adventures in Tarcoles: Relax and Explore in Costa Rica’s Hidden Gem

Kick off the New Year in Tarcoles, Costa Rica, where a mix of sun, clouds, and rain sets the stage for thrilling adventures and serene relaxation. Discover the perfect blend of excitement and tranquility with activities like the Rainforest Skywalk and Crocodile Tour.

Embrace the New Year in Tarcoles: A Blend of Relaxation and Adventure

As the holiday season winds down, there’s no better place to recharge and embrace the New Year than in the sun-soaked town of Tarcoles, nestled in Costa Rica’s Puntarenas Province. With its unique blend of relaxation and adventure, Tarcoles offers a perfect escape for those looking to unwind while still seeking a thrill. The weather on January 11th and 12th promises a mix of partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures, with a chance of rain in the afternoons, making it ideal for morning explorations and afternoon relaxation.

Start your day with a leisurely stroll along the Tarcoles River, where the Rainforest Skywalk offers a breathtaking view of the lush rainforest. This 1.5-mile walk takes you across three hanging bridges, each offering a unique perspective of the vibrant ecosystem below. As you traverse the bridges, keep an eye out for the diverse bird species and other wildlife that call this rainforest home. The morning’s clear skies and mild temperatures make it the perfect time to immerse yourself in nature’s beauty.

“Highly recommended Puntarenas shore excursion - The Greenway Tour van was easy to locate after an easy walk from the ship at the Puntarenas port. Our tour guide, Ronald, was very knowledgeable about the local wildlife, fauna and Costa Rican history. He walked us through the rainforest and the swing bridges to point out the various animals and plant life in the area. Included in the tour was an hour long Jungle Crocodile Safari boat ride on the Tarcoles River to look for crocodiles, birds, iguanas, and other wildlife specific to Costa Rica. We took a break to have some tropical fruits in a lovely village and was given time to have lunch and souvenir shop at El Jardin. I felt it was money well spent for the 7-8 hour excursion which was less expensive than taking the ship’s excursion. Ronald also gave each person a little snack box filled with a water, juice, cookies and candies.” - Reviewed on 2024-10-21

Afternoon Adventures: Crocodile Encounters and More

As the afternoon approaches, the weather shifts, bringing a higher chance of rain. This is the perfect time to embark on the Crocodile Tour, a thrilling journey across the Tarcoles River. Available at 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM, this tour offers a unique opportunity to see American crocodiles up close in their natural habitat. From the safety of a riverboat, you’ll cruise along the river, spotting not only crocodiles but also a variety of exotic birds and other wildlife.

The tour guides are known for their knowledge and enthusiasm, ensuring a memorable experience for all. As one recent visitor noted,

“Must do in Tarcoles - It was great seeing crocodiles in their natural habitats. We were lucky to see both the Osama (6m) and the tornado (5m) crocodiles. The tour was completely safe and the guides were knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend.” - Reviewed on 2024-12-12

After your adventure on the river, take a moment to relax and enjoy a meal at the tour’s beautiful restaurant, where you can savor local cuisine while reflecting on the day’s experiences.

Evening Relaxation: Sunset and Serenity

As the day winds down, the skies clear, offering a stunning sunset over the Pacific Ocean. This is the perfect time to unwind and reflect on your adventures in Tarcoles. Whether you choose to relax on the beach, enjoy a quiet dinner at a local restaurant, or simply take in the beauty of the sunset, the evening offers a chance to recharge and prepare for another day of exploration.

The laid-back atmosphere of Tarcoles, combined with its natural beauty and exciting activities, makes it an ideal destination for those looking to start the New Year with a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.
