A Day of Adventure in Tarcoles

As a professional surfer, I’ve spent countless days chasing waves along the sun-drenched coasts of Central America. But every now and then, I crave a different kind of thrill. On my last day in Costa Rica, I found myself in San Jose, yearning for one final adventure before heading back to the ocean. That’s when I stumbled upon the Private ATV Tour and decided to trade my surfboard for an ATV.

The journey began with a comfortable ride in an air-conditioned van, whisking us away from the bustling city to the lush landscapes of Tarcoles. Our guide, Enrique, was a local expert with a passion for the land and its stories. As we crossed the famous Tarcoles Bridge, he pointed out the massive crocodiles lounging in the river below, a sight that set the tone for the wild day ahead.

Trails, Rivers, and Wildlife

Once we arrived at the adventure center, I was eager to hit the trails. The ATVs were ready and waiting, and after a quick safety briefing, we were off. The trails were a mix of everything I love about Costa Rica: shallow rivers, winding mountain paths, and the occasional muddy patch that begged to be conquered.

Enrique led us through a farm where we encountered cows and horses grazing peacefully. The highlight, however, was when he stopped us to point out a mother sloth and her baby nestled in the trees. It was a moment of pure magic, a reminder of the incredible biodiversity that makes this region so special.

The ride continued down to the beach, where the ocean stretched out before us, a familiar sight that always feels like home. We paused to take in the view, snapping a few photos to capture the memory. It was a perfect blend of adrenaline and tranquility, a balance that every surfer seeks.

Tacos, Mojitos, and Memories

After a few hours of exhilarating exploration, we returned to the base, where a feast awaited us. The restaurant served up some of the best tacos I’ve ever had, paired with refreshing mojitos that hit the spot after a day in the sun.

As we sat there, sharing stories and laughter, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s adventure. It was a fitting end to my time in Costa Rica, a country that never fails to surprise and delight.
