Agadir to Agdz
Taroudant - Make a stop in Taroudant before continuing your drive through the Anti Atlas to Agdz. On this journey, you’ll pass through the fertile Souss Valley, with its banana and citrus fruit plantations. Enjoy a local brunch featuring freshly squeezed orange juice, mint tea, and Moroccan pastries. Take in the sight of the 11th-century ramparts and the five monumental gates of Taroudant. Explore the bustling Place Assarag in the city’s heart. Join a guided tour of the souks, showcasing traditional crafts like silver jewelry, leather, engraved limestone, saffron, spices, and Argan oil. You’ll have free time to wander and explore on your own, with a chance to enjoy a refreshing mint tea before leaving Taroudant. This tour offers a great introduction to Morocco’s traditional heritage.
Taliouine - Drive to Taliouine through the Sous valley farms and the Anti/High Atlas Mountains, stopping to admire Argain trees and goats. Continue through local Berber villages and stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Taliouine, known for its saffron production and as one of the world’s main exporters of this spice.
Tazenakht - Pause in Tazenakht for a coffee before continuing to the Draa Valley in Agdz, where you’ll spend the night. Taznakht is a town in Ouarzazate Province, Drâa-Tafilalet region, southern Morocco, on the road from Ouarzazate to Agadir.
Agdz - Agdz, the gateway to the Drâa Valley, is dominated by the Kissane Jbel, recognizable by its tajine dish shape. Located 69 km south of Ouarzazate, Agdz means “resting place,” a fitting name. It is now centered around the main square with its small souk (market).
Agdz to Erg Chebbi desert
Draa Valley - After breakfast, start your day with a walk inside the oasis to explore local life and visit the Tamnougalt Kasbah.
Nkob - Drive through the Draa Valley to Tansikht, then continue to Nkob for a coffee. N’Kob is a rural municipality in the Zagora province, in the Atlas Mountains, located near the Jbel Saghro and 24 kilometers from Tamsahelte.
Erg Chebbi - After a two-hour drive, you’ll reach the stunning Merzouga dunes, known for their powdery sand. Here, you’ll switch from motorized transportation to animal traction to venture into the heart of the desert. Upon reaching the camp, you’ll settle into tents made of camel hair, similar to those used by nomadic families. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a traditional Bivouac Camp under the stars.
Erg Chebbi desert to Dades Valley
Erfoud - Wake up to a spectacular sunrise in the desert and enjoy breakfast. Bivouac trekkers will return by camel, then travel via Erfoud to Tinerhir for lunch.
Gargantas del Todra - Visit the dramatic Todra Gorges. Experience the sublime feeling of being between towering rock walls in the Todra Gorge, where a 300m-deep fault splits the orange limestone into a deep ravine, at some points just wide enough for a crystal-clear river and single-file trekkers. The road from Tinerhir passes green palm groves and Berber villages until, 15km along, high walls of pink and grey rock close in around the road. The approach is thrilling, as if the doors of heaven were about to close before you.
Dades Gorges - Continue through Boulmane Dades to the spectacular “Valley of Dades,” where you’ll spend the evening. Stretching from the High Atlas Mountains in the north to the rugged Jbel Sarho in the south, the Dades Valley is dotted with oases, palm groves, and elaborate kasbahs. The valley is made lush and green by the Dades River, which rises from the High Atlas Mountains before emptying into Morocco’s largest river, the Draa. The waters of the Dades support a variety of almond, fig, walnut, and birch trees, offering a stunning contrast to the earthen-colored rocky formations rising from the valley floor. Often called the Land of a Thousand Kasbahs, the Dades Valley is home to many kasbahs built for the added protection the valley provides.
Dades Valley to Marrakesh or Agadir
Vallee Des Roses - The Valley of the Roses has been carved by the Assif M’Goun river as it winds its way down to the town of Kalaat M’Gouna. A thrilling 30 km paved road runs alongside the river, offering excellent views of the mesmerizing red rock and green valley combination. The valley’s namesake brings life to the area, both literally and economically. Each April and May, the valley is filled with local women picking roses to be shipped to factories in nearby Kalaat, where they are turned into products like shampoo, hand creams, cure-alls, and nasal decongestants. It’s well worth taking the time to stop and smell the roses.
Skoura - Skoura is one of Morocco’s beautiful oases, offering weary travelers a chance to rest and enjoy the abundance of nature. From the road, it appears as a thin, long oasis, but once you get off the road, you’ll discover that Skoura is quite large, with what seemed like a line of trees actually being a flourishing oasis.
Ksar of Ait-Ben-Haddou - Ait-Ben-Haddou in Morocco is a stunning mudbrick ksar in the southeast of the country, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Built around 1000 years ago, it was an important point along the caravan route. Today, Ait-Ben-Haddou is one of Morocco’s most interesting places to visit and a popular stop for tours across the country. Its unique architecture and magical ambiance have made it a film set for many famous movies, including Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and Lawrence of Arabia.
