• Necropoli di Tarquinia - The Etruscan Necropolis of Monterozzi is located over an upland east of Tarquinia (Viterbo) and counts with approximately 6,000 tombs, most of them spaces digged into the rock and surmounted by tumulus, the oldest of them dating back to the seventh century BC. Among these, approximately 200 contain a series of frescoes representing the largest pictorial Etruscan art group arrived to our days and, at the same time, the largest proof of the whole Ancient paintings before Roman Imperial Age.

Located near the Tyrrhenian Sea, Tarquinia, the birthplace of the Etruscan civilization, maintains a historical continuum from the famous Etruscan legend of Tagete till today.

The city, influential and renowned in the Etruscan era, was perched atop the Civita hill.

This location was the hometown of three of Rome’s seven kings, namely Tarquinio Prisco, Numa Pompilius, and Tarquinius Superbus. Post its destruction, the modern town was constructed on the nearby hill.

Medieval Tarquinia flourished again, reflected in the towering edifices, the understated yet classy Romanesque churches, and the robust walls. This tour mandates a minimum of 6 travellers. Note that all museums in Italy remain closed on Mondays for day off.
