Surfing and Serenity: My Lanzarote Adventure
Drawn by the allure of Lanzarote’s waves and the promise of a personal in-water guide, I embarked on a sun-soaked adventure. Join me as I recount my unforgettable surfing and yoga experience on this beautiful island.
Arrival in Lanzarote: A Surfer’s Paradise
As soon as I touched down in Lanzarote, I could feel the island’s unique energy. The sun was shining, the ocean was calling, and I was ready to dive into the waves. My wife and I had heard about the Lanzarote Surfing Session and couldn’t resist the opportunity to experience it ourselves. We were staying at a surf house just a stone’s throw away from the beach, a perfect base for our adventures.
The house was a haven for surfers and yogis alike, with a laid-back vibe that made us feel right at home. Despite being in a touristy area, the house was peaceful and quiet, offering a perfect retreat after a day in the sun. The kitchen was well-equipped, and we enjoyed preparing meals with fresh local ingredients. The presence of three cats and a dog added to the charm, making it feel like a true home away from home.
Riding the Waves at Famara Beach
Our surf lessons took place at the famous Famara Beach, a 30-minute drive from Puerto Del Carmen. The beach is a surfer’s dream, with long stretches of sand and consistent waves that cater to all skill levels. Our group was small, with less than eight people, which meant we received plenty of personalized attention from our instructors, Diego and Andrea.
Diego and Andrea were exceptional, offering a patient and individualized approach to teaching. They were in the water with us, guiding us through each wave, providing tips, and even giving us a little push when needed. Their passion for surfing was infectious, and their dedication to helping us improve was evident in every session. It felt almost like having private lessons, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
Yoga by the Ocean: A Perfect Complement
In addition to surfing, we also indulged in yoga sessions led by Barbara. Practicing yoga on the beach with the sound of the waves in the background was a truly magical experience. Barbara’s approach was personal and accommodating, making it accessible for everyone, from novices to seasoned yogis.
I must admit, yoga was a new venture for me, and my flexibility was akin to a bag of concrete. However, Barbara’s gentle guidance and adjustments made the practice enjoyable and rewarding. Her ability to cater to each individual’s needs made the sessions feel like private lessons, and I left each class feeling rejuvenated and at peace.
Our time in Lanzarote was nothing short of amazing. The combination of surfing and yoga, along with the warm hospitality of our hosts, made for an unforgettable experience. I left the island with a renewed love for the ocean and a newfound appreciation for the art of yoga. Until next time, Lanzarote!
