Journey from Pokhara to Tatopani (2600 m)
Tatopani Hot Spring - The adventure to Mustang begins here. The drive heads west to Beni on a paved road, then follows the Kali Gandaki River on an off-road path. The Kali Gandaki valley is renowned as the world’s deepest gorge, nestled between the Dhaulagiri (8,167 m) and Annapurna I (8,091 m) ranges. Tatopani is a quaint town where visitors can enjoy the natural hot springs.
Travel from Tatopani to Kagbeni (2900m) and visit Muktinath Temple (3800 m)
Kagbeni - The journey continues through the local villages of Kalopani and Ghasa, with a chance to explore the apple orchards of Marpha Village and the Jomsom local market. The drive proceeds to the picturesque Kagbeni, where the area’s beauty can be explored.
Muktinath - After passing through Kagbeni village, the holy temple complex of Muktinath awaits, featuring 108 taps dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Visitors can also see Jal Devi, where natural gas causes a perpetual flame, and explore the local town of Muktinath, the Buddhist monastery in Jharkot, with stunning views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Tukuche Peak, before returning to Kagbeni for an overnight stay.
After completing official formalities for the Special Permit, drive to Ghami Village (3520 m)
Ghami - The journey crosses the Kaligandaki River near Chhusang village by Jeep, ascending to Chella Village, Samar Village, Syangboche village, Bhina, Ghiling, and finally arriving at Ghami village.
The day offers breathtaking landscapes from Syngboche and other locations. As a private trip, the Jeep can stop anywhere for photos. Local farmer houses with yaks, Tibetan culture, and daily activities can be observed throughout the day.
Travel to Lo-Mangthang (3840 m)
Lo Manthang - The day includes a visit to the Mustang Lo Gager Ghar Gompa, a significant monastery in Mustang, as well as Charang monastery, Lo-mangthang city, “Jampa Gompa,” the oldest monastery built in the early 15th century, also known as the “God house,” “Thubchen Gompa,” a large red assembly hall and gompa from the late 15th century, “Chodey Gompa,” now the main city gompa, and the Monastic Museum. Visitors can also see domestic yaks and cattle caravans, enjoy stunning mountain views and landscapes from the passes, and explore the Buddhist school, arts, king’s palace, and local activities in Lo-manthang.
Exploration Day in Lo-Manthang and Chhosar
Lo Manthang - Discover Namgyal gompa, the sky caves of Chhoser, and the SHIJA JHONG cave of Mustang, which dates back over 3,000 years and has been a focus for archaeologists worldwide.
Lo Manthang - Several other caves near Chhoser have been used for burial, meditation, and living. The tradition of SKY BURIAL is still practiced in Upper Mustang, particularly in Chhoser and nearby villages. After exploring the local areas, the return to the guesthouse is by jeep.
Return Drive to Jomsom (2743 m)
Jomsom - The drive back to Jomsom crosses several local villages, the Kaligandaki River, and passes by Buddhist stupas and monasteries. The evening offers time to explore the local area of Jomsom.
Return to Pokhara (820 m)
Pokhara - The final day of the Upper Mustang adventure includes a scenic drive back to Pokhara. Upon arrival, guests are dropped off at their hotel, marking the end of the tour.
