Kartli was deemed the abode of deities and was represented on earth by priests, leaders, and monarchs. Each stratum of the soil retains remnants of different eras. The region, located at the cultural crossroads, held immense significance as it bridged the East and the West. Its rocky trail still bears evidence of wheeled vehicle movements down the centuries. Mithraism or Zoroastrianism periodically ruled the region, with autonomous priests carrying out sanctified rituals.
