Highlights
  • Giant Bicycle Monument - Your driver and local tour guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Tbilisi and travel to the semi-desert region of Southeast Georgia via the Kakheti Highway, where the main David Gareja monastery complexes (Lavra and Udabno monasteries) await. The drive will take 2 hours.
  • Oasis Club / ოაზის კლუბი - After a brief 70-minute drive from Tbilisi, you will arrive at the village of Udabno. Built in the 1980s as a USSR project intended for military use, the project was never completed by the government. After Georgia gained independence, inhabitants from the Svaneti Region, who are environmental migrants, were relocated here. It was almost a forgotten village until a Polish initiative group decided to settle here, bringing many changes. This is a great opportunity to experience Georgian and Polish hospitality in the semi-desert area of Georgia.
  • David Gareji Monastery - On the left side of the main Rustavi-Jandara road at the 12th km mark, you can observe the Dodorka monastery caves, built in the first half of the 6th century and founded by St. Dodo, one of the disciples of David Garejeli.
  • ჩიჩხიტური - Before arriving at the main monastery, you will see the Chichkhituri tower on the right side of the mountain slope. This tower was part of a monastery with the same name and served as the residence for the head of the Lavra monastery in early medieval times.
  • David Gareja Monastery - Here, we will hike to a sunrise viewpoint and, after sunrise, walk through the monastery and the colorful mountains.
  • Oasis Club / ოაზის კლუბი - Here, we will have breakfast and some relaxation time.
  • Giant Bicycle Monument - Drive back to Tbilisi.

David Gareja Monastries day trip - This day trip was so worthwhile. Our guide Zura was ready and waiting for us in the reception of our hotel as promised. He was very personable and spoke excellent English. We were able to ask him anything He was not only very knowledgeable he was also an excellent listener and clearly very intelligent. Our driver Acho made the long trip comfortable. He navigated poor roads and pot holes and other drivers with experienced competence. We enjoyed visiting and learning about the monasteries and Zura’s respect and knowledge of the monks and their lifestyle made our visits so much more meaningful. We enjoyed a hike up and over the rainbow hills. It was great to stretch our legs and experience the vastness of the terrain. By the time we got to the village where they made bread many had finished for the day however Zura found one still baking. We all had a go and made traditional bread.... then we enjoyed eating it!! With the salty cheese the hot bread we’d made was especially good! The last monastery and the city of love were very pretty and we particularly enjoyed the panoramic views of the Caucas mountains which were snow capped at the time. Zura and Acho were a great team and did so much to make the experience enjoyable for us. We can not recommend them highly enough.

Amazing - One of the best tours ever!! Enjoyed the view of sunrise with no other tourists around so much. Great light, silence, historical view! Our driver, david, drove us safe even on the sometimes bumpy roads and our tour guide, zurab, shared lots of interesting stories.

Incredible Time - I really enjoyed my time in the semi-desert. Watching the sunrise was amazing! We had the place on our own so we could just enjoy the nature. It's worth getting up early. Walking through the Rainbow Hills was also great, there are unique views! The guide called Zura is awesome and it's fun to spend time with him. I would always participate the tour again :)
