The Caucus Mountains are admired for their captivating beauty and the area’s profound past. The isolated Gergeti Trinity Church, the only structure of its kind in the Khevi province, was constructed in the 14th century by an anonymous builder. The separate bell tower, constructed slightly later, is from the equivalent timeframe as the church. Strategically positioned atop a precipitous mountain and enveloped by an expansive natural landscape, this church is a remarkable emblem for Georgia. Notably, the 18th century Georgian writer, Vakhushti Batonishvili, documented that during perilous times, invaluable artifacts from Mtskheta, including the Cross of Saint Nino, were safeguarded here. Despite the prohibition of all religious ceremonies during the Soviet period, the church continued to be a favored destination for visitors. Today, the actively functioning church is part of the Georgian Orthodox and Apostolic Church.
