If a journey to Georgia is in your travel plans and you’re interested in sightseeing something truly extraordinary and significant, then Vardzia should top your itinerary. Dedicate a day of your excursion in the southern regions of Georgia to discover the magnificent cave city of Vardzia, a marvel entirely sculpted within caves. This unusual city includes streets, churches, eating areas, meeting spots, kitchens, bathrooms, and more. Originally, Vardzia was organized as 13 storeys vertically carved into a mountain.
During your travel to Vardzia, there’ll also be stopovers at Georgia’s largest fortress, Rabati, located in Akhaltsikhe. Constructed in the 9th century, it served as the primary fort for southern Georgia. Having undergone recent restoration, it now stands as an impressive tourist destination, boasting awe-inspiring vistas, fascinating historical significance, and a meticulously maintained museum displaying medieval artifacts.
