Don't let rain put you off - Brilliant, despite the rain. Lots of waterfalls. Warren, commentator on the boat, is an absolute gem. Prefer Doubtful to Milford, as it's so cut off

Great Tour - We were blessed with good weather. An exceptional tour from start to finish. A coach ride with our guide Chris who was great fun and very knowledgeable to Manapouri Lake, we then embarked on a cruise across the lake. Captain gave a brilliant commentary across the lake. We were then transferred to coaches to take us across to Doubtful Sound. Each part of the trip to Doubtful Sound was accompanied by brilliant guides giving us lots of info about the areas we passed through and photo opportunities.
Our trip through Doubtful Sound was majestic and peaceful. We were very lucky to see Fiordland Crested Penguins and have a great photo op. Our Captain gave a very in-depth commentary which enhanced the whole experience. Definitely recommend this tour, one not to miss. Having also toured Milford Sound, don't discount Doubtful because you'll miss out on the best.

So glad I went - Doubtful Sound is spectacularly beautiful and very different from Milford Sound so worth visiting both if you have time. The trip was very well organised as it involves bus/boat/bus/boat in both directions. It’s an interesting journey and makes for an overall excellent day.

I think I will start saving now so that we can come back. - We cannot rate this experience highly enough. From coach pick up to crossing Lake Manapouri to the drive over Wilmot Pass and most of all the cruise around Doubtful Sound it is WOW moment after WOW moment after WOW moment. The crew are well informed, helpful and very good at their jobs. We would gladly come back and do it all again if we did not live in the UK - in fact I think I will start saving now so that we can come back.

The highlight of our holiday - I couldn’t decide between Doubtful and Milford so we did both. Our Doubtful Sound Cruise ended up being the highlight of our entire 6 week trip to NZ.
The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and Sunny our bus driver was unassumingly funny.
We must have scored the perfect day with moody weather, only a slight drizzle, a million waterfalls and a small number of other passengers.
We were lucky enough to experience the motors off in a cove for a few minutes, which is something else!
Coming back for the overnight cruise is definitely on my wish list.

doubtful sound - short bus ride from Te Anau, then got on the boat across lake manapouri, the bus ride over the pass was good although some clouds. we did stop at the overlook on the way back as the weather had cleared. excellent boat ride, waterfalls, saw some penguins swimming. wine, drinks and food on the ship although we brought our own. highlight of the trip

Amazing landscap to see - Amazing landscape, so peaceful. The trip to actually get on the boat in Doubtful Sound is very long and tiring because we have to take a bus from Te Anau, then a 25 min boat trip on the Manapouri Lake and then a bus for 30-40 min and then actually getting on the boat for 3 hours. But it was worth it ! I highly recommend to do that tour !

Underwhelming given the hype, - Look, everything in NZ is amazing, and this was too, but given the hype, we were underwhelmed. It's a super long and tiring day of bus, boat, bus, boat and then all of that on return as well. We did Milford the next day and that was nicer (with less people and cheaper). We suggest you either skip this, or do a flyover, or do an overnight cruise, I think thaz could be more fun if it adds stargazing, kayaking etc.
Too many people were with us (depending on what part of the journey as little as 60, and as many as almost 100) more than the 45 that was advertised. It was very loud, especially with all the uni students.
You couldnt alway here the comms that well so missed out on useful commentary, both in the busses and boats. Transferring from.bus to boat was also somewhat chaotic, not many instructions were given.
Thanks to Dave the bus driver though, he was informative and very funny!
