Highlights
  • Key Summit - Your trip departs from Te Anau and takes around 1.5 hours travelling in a vehicle to Fiordland’s mountain “divide” - between east and west. The walk begins at the Divide Shelter with a steady climb on a well maintained track. Gaining an elevation of 400 meters, the ascent takes approximately 2 hours at a leisurely pace. On a fine day lunch is had on Key Summit, and in unfavorable conditions in a nearby shelter. After lunch you will descend back to the Divide Shelter before returning to Te Anau. You will spend approximately 4 to 6 hours walking based on your ability but you should be prepared for at least 4 hours walking at a leisurely pace with some hill climbing. This walk is rated ‘easy’ but some fitness is required for the hill climb.

Third walk with Trips and Tramps - Had a very wet yet wonderful hike with Andreas and Jane as guides. The Heavens opened and the views hid. Still great fun as the third day of one day hikes we did with the company. Well prepared, knowledgeable guides and great company. The group of people we walked with were just amazing. The drive along the valley gave us mountain to mountain waterfalls. Lunches were great. Would do the whole lot again.

Our first great hike in NZ in perfect weather! - Learned that the great walks/holes are well established routes with paths that are maintained. Geoff and Jake were wonderful and knowledgeable guides; funny and very personable as well. Hike up to the summit is a manageable walk and our group of 12 all walked at our own comfortable pace. Lunch was good and plentiful; the cup of hot tea at the top was perfect. Scenery along the way and at the top is incredible. Used our walking poles - a few steep areas with loose stones. On time and true to description. Loved it!

Wonderful small group walk - Our guide John and Jane were so kind and lovely. We stopped at several spots on the way to the Routeburn track and their explanation was very informative and helpful. As a solo traveler, I felt safer with the group on the track and they gave us a much nicer time of trail walk with all the care and talks. At the key summit, they served us some nice tea which warmed us up. Until the end of the trip, it was so much enjoyable and fun. I’ll recommend this to anyone who’s planning the trekking at Te Anau!

Great guides - The guides were great and the hike is beautiful. This is a fabulous hike if you can't do the whole Routeburn tramp.

Best hike ever to Key Summit! Don’t miss. - First of all, our guide, Andreas, was just so in tune with our group. I was a little unsure of the level of fitness needed, but he reassured us that it was “our” day, and he let us ascend at a measured pace. Plenty of photo pops and water breaks made it all so enjoyable. The scenery at the summit was extraordinarily beautiful. Under the tree canopy the forest landscape was vastly different than the alpine landscape above along the path. Lunch was delicious while taking in the views, and then we made our way down to regroup and then drove to make 3-4 surprise stops which added to our experience!! I can’t say enough good things, because it was awesome. Take this trek, and ask for Andreas. Kind, personable, and funny. It was a dream hike.

Sensational day out! - We absolutely loved our day walk at Routeburn Track with John, he was so knowledgeable and very accomodating to our interests. He really spent the time to get to know us and in turn used this to tailor the experience to us. We couldn’t fault the entire day!

Awesome guides - My husband and I did a walk with Trips & Tramps today and we loved it!! Shoutout to Ro & Kate - in spite of the weather, they made adjustments and took care of all aspects of our trip to make it an enjoyable, educational and fun day. We were part of a group of 13, but they made it like we had our own personal guides. We highly recommend doing a tour with this company.

3 day, 4 night Fjiordland Great. Walks package with Trips and Tramps in NZ. - Amazing trip with walks in 3 different landscapes and including a Heli hike! Breakfast and packed lunch included. Trips & Tramps catered for everyone - different walking fitness levels and the local guides were just lovely- sharing the knowledge and differing perspectives. The views were absolutely amazing! High alpine regions, temperate rainforests and of course incredible fjords, waterfalls and tarns. We got to see the amazing Kia parrots up close too. Cannot recommend this trip highly enough. Accommodation was really comfortable and could walk to amazing restaurants for dinner - perfect!
