Go. Just go! - What an absolutely amazing and informative night. I hate to admit that at 50, I didn’t know the Māori people or culture even existed. And then I saw a Haka. And another and was mesmerized by it. Next thing you know I am on a plane headed to New Zealand. I knew that I needed to immerse myself in the Māori culture while here. There are several Māori experience in Rotorua so I let a friend weigh in on the decision. I’m so glad he chose Te Pa Tu. This is what I wrote on my blog about the experience. I really did an awful job at taking pictures of my food tonight, but not of eating it. It was a wonderful night of learning about the Māori culture and food and meeting new, fascinating people from around the world. It is so important that we leave our bubble, our comfort zone. That seem to be a recurring theme tonight. I went out of my comfort zone driving over here and now it has become so much easier. Traveling alone, nailed it. Tonight was different in a sense. I have gone out to eat by myself which took a little bit to get used to at first but tonight might have been the first time I ever eat family style, with strangers. I met some of the most interesting, mesmerizing and articulate people all while learning about the Māori culture as well as others. The food was equally as interesting. I didn’t ask, I just ate and it was all delicious. To be honest, I don’t know if I would’ve chosen any of what I ate off of a menu so I am extremely grateful to have had this opportunity to expand my palate. It was a wonderful night of expanding, learning and accepting. ~Always The Adventurer #50at50 #50stateschallenge #alwaystheadventurer #travel #WorldTraveler #travelbug #travelblogger #rotorura #nzed #newzealand

The Best Night for You: Ta Pa Tu! - What an amazing evening! This was a lovely, authentic introduction to local Maori culture and what made it so special was the way it was all done. First, this was all one family and it was clearly a sharing of heart. Second, it was conducted in small groups and had interactive elements. Third, every effort was made to make the evening personal, like every party was a personal friend. They even made sure at least one family member was seated at each table. The food was delicious and generous (quantity-wise) and the entertainment was high calibre.

A Maori Cultural Experience Which Should Not Be Missed - Since we were there during the Matariki celebration the trip to Rotorua was especially educational and there were many experiences related to Matariki including the introduction to the Maori village. The education and blessing started at the first campfire before we entered the village. The experience got better from there. We sat with Maori people and shared our stories as we learned about theirs. We saw the earthen oven our food was prepared in and got to hear and see Maori songs and dances. Our dinner table was joined by two young male Maori who were happy to talk with us about their culture and answer our questions. Dinner was abundant and tasty. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience. It should not be missed when visiting Rotorua

Good times, good vibes and great eats! - The whole experience was fantastic! From the food to the education about the Māori and their people to the food, I had a blast! Plus the family interacts with you and gets to know a little about you and where you’re from! A great way to communicate and learn from each other! Even though it rained, the family made it work! Thanks a bunch!

Unique cultural and food tour! - Informative experience from what was a troupe of passionate and related family members. Excellent selection of food options. Our tour was tempered by rainy weather so we couldn’t get the full outdoor experience. Also, the story telling could have been more polished (ie. seems more ad lib than well rehearsed) but the passion was clear.
