Additional Information

Located deep in the mountains of Tunisia, about 90 minutes from Tunis, Dougga was a heavily-populated Numidian area. This city acted as a principal city for Massinissa, a Roman partner, and a fierce competitor of Carthage.

Dougga is a vast archaeological site covering approximately 3 km², renowned as the best-preserved Roman city in North Africa.

The majestic theatre in Dougga, established in 168 CE, was a gift from the city’s most affluent family. It’s preserved so well that it is still used today, notably for the summertime Dougga Festival concerts.

Dougga’s Capitol is undoubtedly among the most extraordinary Roman era remnants.

The candid and functional design of the city’s brothel is captivating, featuring an openly accessible courtyard for flirtation and rooms just beyond for service purposes.

The Licinian Baths also pique interest, remarkably having much of their original walls still undamaged, and a lengthy tunnel that was utilized by the slaves laboring in the baths.
