Additional Information

A morning paddle on Yellowstone Lake is a great way to start the day before moving on to afternoon activities.

We begin the tour at 8AM to beat the wind and waves that can form later in the day. Morning is the best time of the day to spot wildlife.

Your kayak instructor will provide a safety briefing and introduce your group to the kayaks and paddle strokes. The tours have a ratio of 6-guests-to-1-guide. The minimum age to join this tour is 14.

Once underway, we journey from the Grant Village Marina to the West Thumb Geyser Basin, weather permitting. The sight of the steaming geyser basin forms a lifelong memory. Enjoy the big mountain views of the Absaroka Range across the lake. Getting out on the water is a unique way to experience the Park.

Our tours are fun! But we also have a passion for the Park and enjoy sharing information about the flora, fauna, and history of the region.

Please, come enjoy a day on the waters of Yellowstone Lake with Yellowstone Hiking Guides.

The perfect day - Had the most amazing time kayaking with Josh on Lake Yellowstone. Josh was one of the most down to earth, friendly and professional guides you could ask for. Extremely knowledgeable about the area having lived most his life in the mountains. My wife and I had the good fortune of kayaking with Josh exclusively, since another party canceled out. It almost seemed like we were on the water with a good friend exchanging experiences. The weather and water conditions were perfect and I can’t imagine a more serene and relaxing experience. Highly recommend.

Great Kayaking in Yellowstone Lake - My family (43M, 43F, and two kids (13)) did the morning kayak from Grant Village Marina. We were greeted with hot drinks and pre-kayaking snacks. Gear was clean and in great condition. Guides (Josh, Emily Jo, and Ann Marie (who is a rowing coach!)) were knowledgeable and extremely helpful teaching the kids how to properly paddle. The 6-mile paddle was a great way to see geysers (one of which erupted during our excursion!) and thermal water run off into Yellowstone Lake. It was a great perspective to see Yellowstone thermal features from the lake. Mid-paddle snack was provided, and lunch was well put together with brown bags completely full of apples, nuts, Kind bars, chips, etc, with sandwiches (GF available!) and drinks. Overall, we had a great time and were well taken care of. I would absolutely recommend!

A fun and different way to see the geyser basin! - We had 3 excellent guides, Josh, Josh, and Mike. We stopped for a snack, saw the geyser basin, felt the slightly warmer water coming from them, saw some unique birds on the water and bubbles coming up from under the water, and had a wonderful lunch once back to the marina. Very informative and definitely a good workout!

Had a great time with our tour guides, would definitely do it again next time I come to Yellowstone! - Most memorable part was seeing the geysers from the lakeshore and being on the lake! The two Josh’s and Michael who were our tour guides were just amazing! So fun to talk to and they genuinely cared for everyone on the tour!
