Driving Creek Pottery - The Coromandel region of New Zealand has a rich history of pottery making. One of the most famous potters in the area was Barry Brickell who created a range of pottery sculptures using clay he dug from his own hilly property. He made New Zealand’s first wood-fired stoneware pottery kiln in 1974 with help from students using bricks from a demolished hotel in the nearby town of Coromandel.
You can find out more about the history of pottery in Coromandel by visiting Driving Creek Railway & Potteries. The complex blends into the natural bush setting in the beautiful Coromandel, New Zealand. You can tour their Coromandel pottery shop then spend time in the craft shop viewing the finished works.
You will have an experience of the pottery class for an hour and half. - Driving Creek Railway - Driving Creek Railway is a narrow gauge bush and mountain railway on the outskirts of the provincial town of Coromandel on the northwestern coast of the Coromandel Peninsula on New Zealand’s North Island. The railway leads up the mountain to a viewing platform building 165 m high above the surrounding Coromandel west coast country. It is one of Coromandel’s most popular attractions and suitable for all ages - a one hour round trip on a narrow gauge mountain train through a replanted forest up to the Eyeful Tower viewing platform featuring a superb view over the Coromandel Town, harbour and beyond .
