Gangaikonda Cholapuram - Next drive to the town of Gangaikonda Cholapuram that is situated at a distance of around 45 miles from Thanjavur. This was the capital of the Chola dynasty for over 250 years. The temple here is also dedicated to Lord Shiva and is known for its famous bronze sculptures.

- Airavatesvara Temple - After lunch drive to the town of Darasuram which is an hour’s drive from Gangaikonda Cholapuram. It is home to the well preserved Airavatesvara Temple. This stone temple is shaped like a chariot and contains sculptures of Gods from the Vedas and the Puranas.
