In Greek mythology the Hot Gates is one of the entrances to Hades. Thermopylae is the site of a battle between the Greek forces and the invading Persian forces, commemorated by Simonides of Ceos in the famous epitaph, “Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by, That here obedient to their laws we lie.” Thermopylae is the only land route large enough to bear any significant traffic between Lokris and Thessaly. To go from north to south along the east coast of the Balkan peninsula requires use of the pass, and so Thermopylae has been the site of several battles.

A must see part of history when in Greece! - Wonderful day absorbing the history of Greece at such a well preserved areas
George was extremely knowledgeable, pleasant and helpful throughout the day and made great recommendations for food and how to visit the ancient ruins

Exceptional Tour with an Outstanding Guide!
- We had an unforgettable private tour to Thermopylae and Delphi, led by Spiros, who made the day truly special. Spiros was a fantastic guide—knowledgeable, engaging, and always ready to answer our questions. He went above and beyond, accommodating our needs and giving us extra time at each site, making sure we truly enjoyed every moment. The sites were inspiring and beautiful, and Spiros' insights brought them to life. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a well-rounded, insightful, and enjoyable experience!

Perfect private day tour from Athens - We went for the Thermopylae and Delphi tour with Fotis. He was very friendly and also knowledgeable. Throughout the journey he kept us informing fun facts about not only the main attractions e.g Delphi and Thermopylae but also other surrounding cities and monuments. The communication related to pick up was perfect, and during the journey he made us feel home by looking after all small details such as drink water and routine breaks. Overall, I would strongly recommend this trip and Fotis as a great person.

Fantastic tour - Like our guide, Stratos, said, Delphi is like a microcosm of all of Greece's natural beauty. The sight is breathtaking. Afterwards, our driver Michalis drove so well down a road literally FULL of twists, turns and curves, that we all actually dozed off to sleep at one point or another. Huge kudos to both men for a great tour.

Good, but must-read notes… - Great driver. Knowledgeable, enthusiastic.
Check the drive times! It’s 2.5 hours each way in a tight European car.
Be careful if elderly. Oracle of Delphi / Temple of Apollo is up the face of a mountain and built into the slope. Everything requires walking in the sun. My 72yo mother really struggled to get up.
Bring umbrellas to protect you from the sun, almost zero shade while exploring. Sunscreen a must.
Didn’t book lunch thru Viator but driver gave us a great recommendation that ended up being one of the better meals we had in Athens vicinity.
We were a party of three - elderly mom stayed in front seat, two young guys in back seat behind her with middle seat free. Wouldn’t have been comfortable at all with four people.

Check the current opening and closing times! - Make sure your guide is aware of the current opening and closing times of the Delphi site. Our guide got us there too late in the afternoon. We only had a few minutes and saw very little.
