- White Tower of Thessaloniki - The White Tower, a prominent landmark of Thessaloniki, was constructed in the fifteenth century following the city’s capture by the Ottomans in 1430. It replaced an older tower that was part of Thessaloniki’s Byzantine defenses, situated where the eastern wall met the sea wall. The Tower marked the eastern end of the sea wall. The White Tower is circular, standing 33.90 meters tall with a diameter of 21.70 meters. It includes a ground (entrance) floor and six upper stories. Built from stone, plaster, and partially brick, the battlements, entrance roof, ground floor, and staircase vault are exclusively brick.
- Monument of Alexander The Great - Located in the popular Nea Paralia area by the sea, the monument of Alexander the Great is an impressive six-meter (20 ft.) tall statue depicting Alexander riding his famous horse, Bucephalus.
- Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki - One of Greece’s largest museums and the central museum of northern Greece, the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki has been housed in a building designed by architect Patroklos Karantinos since 1962. It is a listed monument of modern heritage and a prime example of architectural modernism in Greece. The museum’s collections feature artifacts and assemblages from excavations conducted throughout Macedonia since 1912 by the Greek Antiquities Service.
- Arch of Galerius - The Arch of Galerius, an early 4th-century AD monument in Thessaloniki, is an outstanding example of early Byzantine art and architecture.
- Rotunda - The Rotunda of St. George, located just north of the junction of the city’s two main axes where the Arch of Galerius stands, is one of the 15 Paleochristian and Byzantine Monuments of Thessaloniki included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988. Named for its round shape, the Rotunda is one of Thessaloniki’s oldest and most impressive monuments. Built during the early years of the Roman tetrarchy when Caesar Galerius (250-311 AD) was based in Thessaloniki, it was part of the imperial complex and possibly intended as Galerius’ mausoleum, though it was never used as such.
- Roman Forum of Thessaloniki - The Ancient Forum, the administrative center of ancient Thessaloniki, covered about two hectares in the city’s heart. Its construction began at the end of the 2nd century A.D. on the site of an older forum from early Imperial times.
- Church of Saint Dimitrios - Patron of Thessaloniki - The Church of Saint Demetrius, or Hagios Demetrios, is the main sanctuary dedicated to Saint Demetrius, the patron saint of Thessaloniki.
- Trigonion Tower - The Trigoniou Tower, the most famous and impressive tower of the wall, was built in the late 15th century to prevent invasions. Also known as “the balcony of Thessaloniki,” it offers a magnificent panoramic view of the city and the sea. On clear days, you can see Mount Olympus, 150km away.
- Tsinari - Tsinari, part of the Ano Poli (Upper City), derives its name from the Turkish word “cinar” for plane tree. The district’s character remains vibrant due to the preservation of the old urban plan and numerous listed buildings.
- Aristotelous Square - Aristotelous Square, the main city square of Thessaloniki, is located on Nikis Avenue along the city’s waterfront in the center. Designed by French architect Ernest Hébrard in 1918, most of the square was built in the 1950s. Many surrounding buildings have been renovated, and the northern parts were largely restored in the 2000s.
