National Library and Archives of Bhutan - Established in 1967, the National Library of Bhutan in Thimphu aims to “preserve and promote the rich cultural and religious heritage” of Bhutan.
Thimphu Chorten (Memorial Chorten) - The Memorial Stupa, also known as the Thimphu Chorten, is located on Doeboom Lam in the southern-central part of Thimphu, near the main roundabout and Indian military hospital.
Motithang Takin Preserve - Situated in the Motithang district of Thimphu, Bhutan, this wildlife reserve is dedicated to the takin, Bhutan’s national animal. Initially a mini-zoo, it was transformed into a preserve when it was found that the animals did not venture into the surrounding forest even when released.
National Folk Heritage Museum - Also known as Phelchey Toenkhyim, this museum is located in Thimphu, Bhutan.

Tashichho Dzong (Thimpu Dzong) - Tashichho Dzong is a Buddhist monastery and fortress located on the northern edge of Thimphu, Bhutan, on the western bank of the Wang Chu.
Buddha Dordenma - The Great Buddha Dordenma is a massive Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the mountains of Bhutan, commemorating the 60th birthday of the fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

Dochula Pass - Located in the snow-covered Himalayas on the road from Thimphu to Punakha, the Dochula Pass features 108 memorial chortens or stupas known as “Druk Wangyal Chortens,” built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother. In addition to the chortens, there is a monastery called the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang (temple), built in honor of the fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The open grounds in front of the temple host the annual Dochula Druk Wangyel Festival. The pass, with its 108 memorial chortens, is adjacent to the country’s first Royal Botanical Park.
Punakha Dzong - Constructed in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal at the confluence of the Phochu and Mochu rivers, this impressive dzong once served as both the religious and administrative center of Bhutan. It measures approximately 600 by 240 feet and features a six-story, gold-domed tower. Inside, courtyards and religious statues reflect the deep history and spiritual tradition embodied here.
Chimi Lhakhang Temple - Situated on a hillock in the center of the valley, the Chimi Lhakhang is also known as the temple of fertility. It is widely believed that couples who pray here and wish for children are often blessed with a child soon after. A walk through the nearby village offers rare insights into the daily life and lifestyle of the villagers.

National Museum - Housed in Ta-Dzong, an ancient watchtower, the National Museum is located about five and a half kilometers from Paro’s main town and 500 feet from the Rinpung Dzong below. While cameras are not allowed inside the museum, you can photograph the Ta Dzong and its surrounding grounds.
Rinpung Dzong - Construction of the Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong) began in 1644 under the orders of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of modern-day Bhutan. Unlike many other dzongs in Bhutan, it survived the massive 1897 earthquake, though it was damaged by fire in 1906. Paro Dzong’s full name, Rinpung Dzong, means ‘the fortress of the heap of jewels.’ The approach to the Dzong is via a traditional covered bridge called the Nemi Zam. A paved stone path runs alongside the imposing outer walls of the structure. The valley’s annual springtime religious festival, the Paro Tsechu, is held each year in the dzong’s courtyard and attracts tourists from around the world.

Tiger’s Nest Monastery Hike
Paro Taktsang - The Taktsang Monastery hike may take approximately 6 hours (round trip). It is recommended to enjoy a hot stone bath and spa after the trek for relaxation. Spend the evening exploring Main Street and the market area on foot.
Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang Lhakhang) is Bhutan’s most iconic landmark and religious site. The name Taktsang translates to “The Tiger’s Nest.” This temple is one of the most sacred sites in the kingdom. It is believed that Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) flew to this location from Tibet on the back of a tigress from Khenpajong. This site was consecrated to tame the Tiger demon and was first built in 1692 at a cave where Guru Rimpoche meditated. To reach the temple, one must trek for approximately 2-3 hours through beautiful, shady pine forests adorned with moss and prayer flags.
