Thimphu Chorten (Memorial Chorten) - The Memorial Stupa, also known as the Thimphu Chorten, is located on Doeboom Lam in the southern-central part of Thimphu, near the main roundabout and Indian military hospital.
Motithang Takin Preserve - Situated in the Motithang district of Thimphu, Bhutan, this wildlife reserve is dedicated to the takin, Bhutan’s national animal. Initially a mini-zoo, it became a preserve when it was found that the animals did not venture into the surrounding forest even when released.

Dochula Pass - Located in the snow-covered Himalayas on the road from Thimphu to Punakha, the Dochula Pass features 108 memorial chortens, known as “Druk Wangyal Chortens,” built by Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, the eldest Queen Mother. The pass also includes the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang (temple), honoring the fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The open grounds host the annual Dochula Druk Wangyel Festival. Adjacent to the pass is the country’s first Royal Botanical Park.
Punakha Dzong - Constructed in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal at the confluence of the Phochu and Mochu rivers, this majestic dzong once served as Bhutan’s religious and administrative center. It measures approximately 600 by 240 feet and features a six-story, gold-domed tower. Inside are courtyards and religious statues that reflect the site’s historical and spiritual significance.
Chimi Lhakhang Temple - Situated on a hillock in the valley’s center, the Chimi Lhakhang is also known as the temple of fertility. It is widely believed that couples who pray here are often blessed with a child. A walk through the nearby village offers rare insights into the villagers’ daily life and lifestyle.

National Museum - The National Museum, Ta-Dzong, is an ancient watchtower now housing the National Museum. Located about five and a half kilometers from Paro’s main town and 500 feet from the Rinpung Dzong, cameras are not allowed inside, but visitors can photograph the ta dzong and surrounding grounds.
Rinpung Dzong - Construction of the Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong) began in 1644 under the order of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of modern Bhutan. Unlike most other dzongs in Bhutan, it survived the massive 1897 earthquake, though it was damaged by fire in 1906. Paro Dzong’s full name, Rinpung Dzong, means ‘the fortress of the heap of jewels.’ The approach to the Dzong is via a traditional covered bridge called the Nemi Zam. A paved stone path runs alongside the imposing outer walls. The valley’s annual springtime religious festival, the Paro Tsechu, is held in the dzong’s courtyard and attracts tourists worldwide.

Tiger’s Nest Monastery Hike
Paro Taktsang - The Taktsang Monastery hike may take approximately 6 hours round trip. A hot stone bath and spa are recommended after trekking for relaxation. The evening is free for an exploratory walk around Main Street and the market area.
Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang Lhakhang) is Bhutan’s most iconic landmark and religious site. The name Taktsang translates to “The Tiger’s Nest.” This temple is one of the kingdom’s holiest sites. It is believed that Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) flew to this location from Tibet on the back of a tigress from Khenpajong. The site was consecrated to tame the Tiger demon and was first built in 1692 at a cave where Guru Rimpoche meditated. To reach the temple, one must trek for about 2-3 hours through beautiful, shady pine forests adorned with moss and prayer flags.
