- Monastery of Profitis Ilias - Profitis Ilias (30 minutes) is the highest point on the island (567 meters), located between Pyrgos and Kamari. The mountain is named after the Monastery of Profitis Ilias at its peak. From this vantage point, you will enjoy a striking view of the entire island, from the patchwork agricultural plains to the hilltop village of Oia.
- Megalochori - Traditional Village - Megalochori traditional village (45 minutes) features typical Cycladic houses and neoclassical buildings. Located between Pyrgos, Emporio, and Akrotiri, it is less than 10 km from Fira. The village consists of hundreds of small white-painted houses built close together and is known for its beautiful churches. It combines traditional architecture with vaulted houses and stone-cobbled narrow pathways, and has a lively community with a fairly large permanent population.
- Pyrgos - Pyrgos casteli (45 minutes) was built on top of a hill and was the island’s capital until the early 1800s. The village consists of traditional houses built around the Venetian Castle, with small streets following the hill’s shape. As you climb from the square up to the castle, the stone houses become more densely packed and the narrow vaulted lanes more winding. The village has many churches, around 33, but the most famous is the Monastery of Profitis Ilias, which houses a small collection of ethnographic material and old icons. Pyrgos is definitely worth a visit, offering some of the most fabulous panoramic views of the island.
- Perissa Black Sand Beach - Perissa black beach (15 minutes) is one of Santorini’s best beaches. Located next to Emporio village, it features a long stretch of dark sand. Besides its crystal-clear water and smooth sand, Perissa is unique for being the best-protected beach from the summer Aegean winds (called “Meltemia” in Greek). Perissa lies right next to Profitis Ilias Mountain, providing total protection from the north. It’s a magnificent beach for swimming.
