Visit of the distillery - Very nice visit for lovers of Rum and those who want to learn more about how to distill alcohol, with Hortense who visited us in French. A mojito to start the visit and then to choose: the visit with tasting or without. We discover Antoine's project: to install the first distillery of Rhum in Vietnam. You can also buy different kinds of Rum/Rum from this distillery, which today remains at a "craft" size, including special editions with limited editions. Done.

Exciting tour and beautiful setting - Visit the distillery and tasting with Hortense. Great atmosphere and very pleasant welcome. I learned a lot about distilling rum. The setting is paradisiacal and beachfront. If you pass through Hoi An go for it, you might have a great afternoon!

Unique in Vietnam - Unique in Vietnam. An artisan distillery that since 2019 has valued the sugar cane of 10 Vietnamese families. The rum is excellent. The explanations and visit are very well organized. Thank you Antoine and Julie.

Little hidden gem - If you are looking for something out of the ordinary tourist spots, this is the place to go. 20 minutes by Grab driver from Hoi An old town you find the litten distillery - don't go by motorbike to be able to test the rum yourself!!! Super nice team. Very personal tour through the whole destillation process. Free welcome drink and a very reasonable tasting! We bought two bottles in the end. ;-)

Hidden gem - Antoine’s passion for his craft is evident as he walks you through the process of making rum from pure Vietnamese sugar cane. Not only do the products use locally-sourced produce, it also supports the surrounding farming community. It’s only a 30-minute drive from Hoi A town, not too far away from Vin Wonders. While not a big fan of liquor, I enjoyed the visit and learned a lot, and possibly discovered a newfound appreciation for rum! A lovely way to spend a couple of hours.

Don't get trapped: EXORBITANT price, PAID tasting but we hide it from you. - Having seen the name of the distillery on the Routard guide we went there on November 27, 2024 afternoon. The distillery is 20km from Hoi Han and it is owned by French. We were well received by Jean, intern. We were served, without being asked, a mojito, I asked with very little rum; then the tour began. The distillery is very small, a still, a few barrels, etc. we quickly went around. Back to the shop to buy a souvenir bottle of Vietnamese rum. Jean offers us a tasting, he automatically puts us 5 glasses and some slices of mango. We only take a few drops of rum, really a few drops and not even in 5 glasses: in the heat, rum between 45 and 55 ° it is hard to swallow when you are not used to it. Then we ask to pay the bottle of 1,700,000 dongs or about 65€. Not given, but for the only rum distilled in Vietnam we accept for our collection. When we look at the invoice before paying, we realize that it is not 1,700,000 dongs that is required but 2,700,000 dongs or about 103€ (depending on the exchange rate of the dong 1 euro worth 26,300 dongs that day). So we point out to John that he was mistaken, that he put a 2 instead of the 1. And then, what is not our SURPRISE when he tells us, without HAVING EVER told us about it and WITHOUT HAVING BEEN ASKED TO PAY AT THE ENTRANCE (as is usually done), that the visit and tasting are paid and at AN EXORBITANT PRICE: 500 000 dongs per person or 19€ which is Vietnamese for a very good meal in an excellent restaurant (for example the Morning Glory of Hoi An) with cocktail as an aperitif. A mojito usually costs 115,000 dongs (€4.50). We've been masterfully fooled by the French. It's the only time during our trip that we got fooled like this because the Vietnamese are honest. Jean still offered us a tasting. I thought he was ashamed to charge us 1,000,000 dongs for a few drops of rum, but that wasn't the reason. Reading the Routard edition 2024/2025 page 313 it is written in italics: Entrance 250,000 dongs (i.e. €9.50). Jean therefore aligned himself with the price announced in the latest edition of Le Routard. I read too quickly the article of Le Routard but at NO TIME and especially not at the entrance we were told that the entrance was paid and at what price! otherwise we would have turned back. Conclusion AVOID visiting THIS DISTILLERY. If you really want to try this rum, look in Hoi An for a restaurant or coffee shop that serves it, it will cost you much, much, much less. For the taxi fare (400,000 dongs A/R) and the visit to the distillery you can treat yourself to TWO MEALS in a good restaurant.
