The Reality of Omkara Cruises, Diamond Cruise Halong Bay & Traverse Travel Vietnam – A Cautionary Tale for Travelers - When we booked a Halong Bay day cruise with Omkara Cruises, we thought we were in for a seamless and luxurious experience, as advertised. What we got instead was a day full of deceit, terrible service, harassment, and physical assault—all for a petty payment issue that was entirely their fault. Before the Nightmare Began 1️⃣ False Advertising & Booking Scam We booked our cruise with Omkara Cruises, but when and where did it turn into “Diamond Cruise”?! Omkara Cruises has been taking bookings under their name, even though their actual cruise has been under repairs for the past 3-4 months! They are simply transferring passengers to another random cruise without informing them. 2️⃣ The “Indian Vegetarian Buffet” Scam Their website boasts an elaborate Indian vegetarian BUFFET—but in reality? Cold, tasteless food thrown on your table in random heaps. No choice, no consideration of preferences. A buffet means you serve yourself, right? Not here! They just dump food in front of you whether you want it or not, making it clear that they couldn’t care less about the customer experience. 3️⃣ A Grand Arrival, But a Miserable Departure Upon arrival, they treat you like valued clients: Small limousine-style cars (max 6-seaters) pick you up from your hotel. Golf carts take you smoothly from the port to the ship (or rather, a boat). But once the cruise is over? It’s a completely different story: No golf carts, no proper escort—just confused passengers walking aimlessly to find their way back to the port. Instead of the luxury ride back, you’re stuffed into a cramped 20-25 seater shared bus like cattle! Clearly, they only care about impressing you before the journey, not about the full experience. *Absolute Horror* But this was just a cherry on the cake, the worst part was something else. I made a last minute booking and just so they don't loose a customer, they agreed for me to take the cruise in the morning after and that "they will share a payment link later". In the morning, the cab driver asked us to pay "cash" to which we repeated that as mentioned on the email, "we don't have cash and we want to make a payment with our credit card and hence, we need a payment link" Their payment link never worked. I tried multiple times and kept asking for a new one, but they kept sending the same broken link of some MooMoo Wallet (how do they expect an expat to be logged in and have an account on some third party payment app which belongs to Vietnam region?) This "send me a new link" and "we will send you" continues till evening after which random people again started asking us for cash. This irritated us even more as we had no clue who were we conversing with over email and why we are being asked about the same thing again and again. Even on our way back to the hotel, we clearly told the driver that we do not have cash and that we will be making the payment online once the proper link is shared. But on the way back, after dropping all but 4 of us, and after uselessly roaming around the same circle 5-6 times, the bus driver started acting suspicious and refused to let us get off until we made the payment. We explained him about the payment link and even offered him to take us to our hotel where we will try to arrange cash (since we were not even carrying the ATM card). We told him my baby was sick and that we just needed to get to our hotel but instead of listening, the driver physically assaulted my husband and me—pushing and pulling us aggressively. My baby was already unwell, and now we were being manhandled and detained over a payment issue caused by their own system failure! Other passengers were shocked and tried to intervene, but the driver and tour staff were completely hostile. And It STILL Wasn’t Over! After finally getting to our hotel and having dinner, we thought we could move past this terrible day. But almost at midnight, another rude person suddenly appeared, this time claiming to be from Traverse Group (Who? What? Why?- No clue). He demanded to know why we hadn’t made the payment yet. He threatened to file a complaint against us—as if we had done something wrong! Funny, right? We just ignored him and went straight to our room. At this point, we had enough. We messaged them saying: “Before any payment is made, we demand an apology from everyone involved in today’s harassment.” Not surprisingly, they never responded. A Warning to All Travelers If you're planning a Halong Bay cruise, DO NOT book with: Omkara Cruises (they don’t even have a functioning cruise, they just deceive people!) Diamond Cruise Halong Bay (terrible service, zero accountability) Traverse Travel Vietnam (threats, harassment, and absolute unprofessionalism) They are scammers, frauds, and completely unsafe for travelers. No reputable company treats customers this way. There are plenty of legitimate tour operators who will actually respect your time, money, and safety. What’s Next? We are filing a police complaint for physical assault and illegal detention. We are reporting these companies to the Vietnam Tourism Board. We urge everyone to share this and spread awareness—so that no other traveler has to experience this kind of mistreatment.
