This area is home to some of the city’s oldest buildings and monuments, such as the Clock Tower (Sahati) and the Et’hem Bey Mosque, as well as notable landmarks from the Communist era, including the National Opera and Ballet Theater and the National Museum of History. As a pedestrian-only zone, the square is a delightful place to stroll and explore these diverse attractions.
• House of Leaves - The House of Leaves Museum portrays “The lives of Albanians” under Communism. The museum is divided into nine sections and, for the first time, publicly unveils the sophisticated and advanced methods of state control over Albanian life during the Communist era.
• National Gallery of Art - The National Gallery of Art houses the most extensive collection of the country’s art over the years. The most captivating paintings are those in the Socialist Realist style, which primarily celebrate the new socialist man.
• Sheshi Nënë Tereza - The tour will proceed along the boulevard “The Martyrs of the Nation” to observe the architecture inherited from the Communist period. The walk will include stops at Mother Teresa Square and in front of the Pyramid, a symbolic structure from this era.
