- National Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Albania - The Albanian Philharmonic was founded in 1950 and includes the choir, symphony orchestra, opera singers, ballet troupe, and conductor. Initially, it operated in the building that now houses the National Theatre. The growth of arts and culture in Albania led to the creation of the State Conservatory, the first vocational school and the largest musical institution in the country. In 1966, the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet moved to the Palace of Culture, where it continues to operate today. This institution is a cornerstone of both Albanian and international music, comparable in quality to the best theatres in the Balkans and beyond. It has nurtured generations of artists who have made significant contributions to both Albanian and international stages.
- Skanderbeg Statue - Skanderbeg Square is the central plaza in Tirana, Albania, named after the national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu. Covering about 40,000 square meters, the Skanderbeg Monument is a prominent feature of the square. The city plan for Tirana was initially designed by Armando Brasini in 1925 and later refined by Florestano Di Fausto in a Neo-Renaissance style. After the Italian invasion of Albania, Gherardo Bosio updated the master plan in 1939. The square is home to several important buildings, including the Tirana International Hotel, the Palace of Culture, the National Opera, the National Library, the National Bank, the Ethem Bey Mosque, the Clock Tower, City Hall, and various ministries.
- Muzeu Historik Kombetar - The National History Museum in Tirana, Albania, opened on 28 October 1981. The museum spans 27,000 square meters, with 18,000 square meters dedicated to exhibitions. Above the entrance is a large mural mosaic titled “The Albanians,” depicting figures from Albania’s history. The museum features several pavilions, including those dedicated to Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, Independence, Iconography, the National Liberation Antifascist War, Communist Terror, and Mother Teresa.
- Postbllok - Checkpoint Monument - The Postbllok (Checkpoint) is a significant historical monument in Tirana, Albania, serving as a reminder of the country’s communist past under Enver Hoxha’s regime. The installation includes original concrete pillars from a labor camp, an old bunker, and a section of the Berlin Wall, symbolizing resistance against oppression. This site is dedicated to the memory of those who suffered during the communist dictatorship and highlights the resilience and spirit of the Albanian people. Visitors gain unique insights into Albania’s journey towards freedom and democracy.
- Blloku - Ish-Blloku, commonly known as Blloku, is an upscale area in Tirana, Albania, renowned for its boutiques, shops, restaurants, trendy bars, pubs, and cafes. Located in the Tirana e Re neighborhood in southwestern Tirana, it becomes especially lively during the summer months when its trendy bars move to the Albanian Riviera. Blloku gained popularity after the fall of Communism, as it was previously a restricted area for the Albanian politburo, unmarked on most maps. The residence of Albania’s communist leader Enver Hoxha can still be found here. Since the end of communism, the area has seen significant development, with many new exclusive flats and apartments, earning it the nickname “playground of the young Albanian elite.”
