Highlights

Tirana (Albania) – Ohrid (N. Macedonia) - Skopje

Ohrid - Our tour leader will pick you up from your hotel in Tirana to begin our journey to North Macedonia. Ohrid is one of the most captivating destinations in North Macedonia and is considered one of the oldest human settlements in Europe. Both the city of Ohrid and Lake Ohrid have been UNESCO World Heritage sites since 1980. The area around Lake Ohrid was once inhabited by the Illyrian Tribe of Enkeleys, and the Romans named the lake “Lyhnidas” (the Light Lake). Our tour will take us to the city of Ohrid, a significant center of Orthodoxy and a UNESCO World Heritage site. We will visit the famous viewpoint at the Church of St. John, the Church of St. Nicholas, and the Halveti Hayati Tekke mosque. During the Ottoman Empire, the city expanded on the hills and surrounding areas by the lake. Today, Ohrid is renowned for its architecture, churches, the castle atop the city, the amphitheater, the stunning lake views surrounded by mountains, and the pearls from the lake.

Skopje - After touring Ohrid, we will continue our journey to Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. The city features a blend of European, Ottoman, and Asian influences. The Stone Bridge connects the new part of the city to the old part. A must-see in Skopje is the Alexander the Great Statue in the city center. Another notable bridge is the Art Bridge, which leads to the Archaeological Museum and is adorned with ornate street lanterns and statues of Macedonian artists and musicians. We will explore the Old Bazaar of Skopje, the largest in the Balkans, which merges modern living with centuries of history. The cross atop the mountain, visible from kilometers away, has become a symbol of the city.

Skopje – Pristina (Kosovo) – Prizren - Tirana

Pristina - Today, we will cross the border into Kosovo, with our first stop being its capital, Pristina. We will visit the Newborn monument, a symbol of Kosovo’s independence and its status as a young nation. We will stroll along the main boulevard in the capital. Sheshi Nena Tereza is a pleasant street for a walk and a coffee at one of the bars. We will also pass by Skanderbeg Square, featuring a statue of Skanderbeg, the national hero of Albania.

Prizren - Prizren has historically been an important Illyrian settlement and a crossroads for the Byzantine and Ottoman empires, contributing to its unique architecture. The river runs through the heart of the old town, flowing under numerous bridges. For a vibrant international experience, visit Prizren in August when the medieval city hosts Dokufest, one of the world’s most renowned short film festivals. The best way to explore Prizren is by wandering its streets, lined with elegant medieval houses. The city is also known for its filigree artisanal techniques for precious metals. If you visit only one mosque, make it the Sinan Pasha Mosque, known for its rich arabesque colors and patterns. The view from the fortress on the hill above the town offers a stunning panorama of this remarkable city.

Tirana - After our city tour, we will drive back to Tirana, marking the end of this incredible journey through history and culture.

Amazing tour of North Macedonia & Kosovo with Daniel at Choose Balkans - An excellent tour for those of you who are short on time, but want to explore the region. Sirma answered all my questions, and organised everything ahead of the tour by email and WhatsApp; also checking in at the end of each day to make sure everything went well. If you are visiting the office, clear physical external signage has been put up since the older Google Streetview images, so it makes it easier to find. Daniel was my tour guide, he was extremely enthusiastic about the history of the region, and did an excellent job of explaining everything throughout the trip along with humour and stories along the way. Everything was perfectly organised, with scheduled toilet breaks, options for how far to walk, and options for lunch on both days. The pre-booked and pre-paid accommodation was at the Premier Hotel in Skopje, which again was very good (and had a lift for luggage). I am really glad I picked this tour company for a no hassle experience, and I am particularly pleased that I got Daniel as my tour guide. I learnt so much about the region's history, and modern day life. Faleminderit!

A lovely moment with Fabio - I had a lovely tour to korca Fabio was amazing I loved the restaurant on the lake on the way home. With feeding the swans and ducks. Korce bazaar was lovely with many restaurants and bars. The highlight of my tour were the interesting conversations I shared with Fabio about his family history and when he played Albanian songs and translated them into English was absolutely precious and a moment I will never forget. The place that I stayed in korce was beautiful
