The Basilica showcases an impressive blend of Gothic and French architectural designs, featuring a central spire that reaches a height of 220 feet. Adorning the Basilica’s portico are a series of sculptures representing the 12 Apostles, as well as figures of St. Francis Xavier and Fr. C.J. Beschi.
Positioned beneath the Basilica’s dome is the revered statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, one of the trio of original statues crafted in France following the Marian apparition at Lourdes. The Basilica is also home to a fragment of the True Cross, which is believed to be a part of the cross upon which Jesus was crucified. In 1999, Pope John Paul II designated the shrine as a Minor Basilica, and it has since become a destination for Catholic pilgrims.
