Sailing Through Time: A Boka Bay Adventure with Knez Lipovac
Drawn by the promise of a unique maritime adventure, I embarked on the Boka Bay Cruise with Knez Lipovac, eager to explore the stunning landscapes and rich history of Montenegro’s coastline.
Setting Sail on the Knez Lipovac
The sun was just beginning to rise over the Adriatic as I found myself boarding the majestic wooden ship, the Knez Lipovac, in Tivat. With its three decks and over a hundred sunbeds, this vessel promised a day of exploration and relaxation. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours on the water, but the allure of a cruise through Boka Bay was irresistible. The crew welcomed us with warm smiles, and I could feel the excitement in the air as we set sail.
Our first stop was the legendary town of Perast, a place that seemed to be frozen in time. The panoramic views were breathtaking, and I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the ocean as we sailed past. The highlight of this stop was the artificial island, Our Lady of the Rocks. The island’s Catholic Church, adorned with a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, was a sight to behold. Dragana, our guide, shared fascinating stories in English, Russian, and Serbian, making the experience even more enriching.
Diving into the Blue
As we continued our journey, the anticipation of swimming in the Miriste lagoon grew. Known for its crystal-clear waters, the lagoon was a paradise for anyone who loves the sea. I couldn’t resist diving in, feeling the cool water embrace me. It was a moment of pure bliss, reminiscent of my days surfing the Caribbean waves. The Blue Cave, with its mesmerizing play of light and water, was another highlight. The sun’s rays danced on the limestone rocks, creating a fairy-tale-like atmosphere that left me in awe.
Lunch on the boat was a delightful affair, with a variety of dishes that catered to every palate. While the food was good, I couldn’t help but think of the fresh seafood back home in the Caribbean. Still, the meal was satisfying, and the camaraderie among fellow travelers made it even more enjoyable.
Exploring Herceg Novi
Our final destination was Herceg Novi, a city known for its rocks and mimosas. The sight of the three famous fortresses—Forte Mare, Kanli Kula, and Španjola—was a testament to the city’s rich history. Walking through the Old Town with Dragana as our guide was like stepping back in time. Her knowledge and passion for the area were evident, and her friendly demeanor made the tour all the more enjoyable.
As we sailed back to Tivat, I reflected on the day’s adventures. The Boka Bay Cruise with Knez Lipovac was more than just a tour; it was a journey through history, nature, and culture. The friendly and attentive staff, the informative guide, and the stunning scenery made it an experience to remember. For anyone looking to explore the beauty of Montenegro, this cruise is a must-do.
