Highlights
  • Tivoli - 8.00 Departure from your accommodation from Rome with a luxury car and with our English-Spanish speaking driver to Tivoli. The ancient Latin city named Tibur, boasts an origin and a millenary history much more archaic than Rome (1215 BC) as evidenced by the Sanctuary of Ercole Vincitore, a sacred structure dating back to the 2nd century BC Currently the image of this city is linked to its three magnificent villas that decorate it everywhere: Villa Adriana, Villa d’Este and the Villa Gregoriana landscape, a splendid and fascinating natural park in the countryside, where it is possible to enjoy a delicious lunch ( not included) in a historic and typical restaurant of the place.
  • Villa d’Este - Villa d’Este was built during the Renaissance in the sixteenth century, it is a true masterpiece of the Italian garden, immense and extraordinary in the landscape, artistic and historical context of the city of Tivoli, with numerous fountains, caves, nymphaeums, water features and music plumbing that leaves its visitors speechless, the territory is full of ravines, caves and waterfalls. These imposing buildings and terraces above the terraces make us think of one of the wonders of the ancient world, the “Gardens of Babylon” while the water supply, with an aqueduct and a tunnel under the city, recalls the engineering wisdom of the ancient Romans.
Villa D’Este is closed every Monday morning and opens at 14.00

On route to the town, you’ll come across Villa Adriana, the grandest villa, a historical relic of Emperor Hadrian’s time, showcasing the remarkable achievements of Roman architecture. In the town, Villa d’Este’s artistic treasures will captivate you, especially its prolific water displays that whisk visitors back to times long past. Since the 19th century, this region’s breathtaking landscape has lured poets, painters, and wealthy nobles, making it a popular stop on the celebrated ‘Grand tour’ - a captivating voyage through archaeology, history, religious sites, and scenic landscapes in Tivoli beyond your wildest expectations; a place cherished by its residents and esteemed over the years by tourists and nature enthusiasts. The fountains and landscaping was amazing - Very beautiful, but you need to be able to do a lot of walking and clibming stairs in order to fully enjoy it.

Beautiful Villa NearRome - Tivoli villa has beautiful gardens and fountains. It was nice to get out of the city and see some of the country side. After visiting the villa it is clear why they are a UNESCO world heritage site. The self guided tour provided by the villa was sufficient to understand and gain appreciation for the villa. Tivoli is very cute and fun to walk around as well. I recommend this trip to those who want to see more of the area outside of Rome.

Better Value Elsewhere - On late notice booked half day prior to tour limited options. Very good driver but misread tour description that both Villas were to be visited, turned out only villa d'este but not villa Adriana - which was only 20min apart. Despite mention about Tivoli in the description, only 1 stop was made outside of villa d'este and after driver walked to entrance and paid for admission, allowed 2hrs and upon return, drove back to Rome. Given covid, preference was for a private trip and for $240/person, could have taken uber for around $125 round trip and even with taxi to villa Adriana, would have gotten off with much less. Not blaming driver but tour operator description should be improved.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS TOUR GROUP!!! - STAY AWAY FROM THIS TOUR GROUP! Confirmed time and hotel pick up for this tour-7:30 AM. They never showed!!! Never answered our phone calls, nor aviator’s. No answer to texts, emails, or messages through Viator site. Received a phone call at 9AM saying driver was stuck in traffic all morning (a lie), could pick us up at place we walked to in 10 minutes. Then received a call saying he was in traffic (again?) and would get us at 10 AM. At 10, we were picked up by a driver (not a tour guide) who spoke no English (booked an English speaking tour). Drove us up to Villa D’Este while smoking in the car (myself and friend allergic to smoke), didn’t know where to buy tickets and had to ask a local, then had ticket agent translate to be finished in 2 hours so he didn’t have to pay for extra parking. Only walked the grounds with no tour guide, had to rush back, driver still smoking in car. Was the worst experience of any Viator tour we’ve ever booked over the last 10 years. And now they are trying to charge us for entire tour! We are fighting through Amex to not pay a dime!

Terrible - My tour was cancelled last minute and the local tour did not bother to call, email or even notify us about it. I had to call them and confirm about the pick up time, etc as well. There wasn't any tour guide to help us around and our driver that picked us up did not speak English. This private tour is poorly coordinated and I would not recommend this to anyone.
