Upon completion of this journey, you will gain an understanding of what truly animates Tomar and gives it vitality. We initiate our exploration at Várzea Grande and progress towards Saint Mary Church, a one-time Cathedral known for its importance as a diocese locally and further afield. On our downward traversal, we’ll encounter sights of the Saint Iria’s Convent, which boasts one of the finest panoramas Tomar can provide. Subsequently, our journey will immerse us in the verdant Mouchão Park, where the Mouchão Wheel stands, purportedly an evidence of the Moors’ sojourn in this region. We resume our journey, this time venturing into the former Jewish district, stepping back into the 15th century and Jewish historical narratives. As we travel, let’s appreciate the renowned corner windows, the hallmark of yesteryear’s architecture. We will wrap up our tour in the city’s heart, the central square.
