Our journey begins in Tomar, a captivating ancient city on the Nabao River, where we will explore the enigmatic Convent of Christ. This structure boasts eight cloisters and the renowned Manueline Window along with its circular church modelled after Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem. Next, we’ll continue to Coimbra, the country’s scholarly hub, which served as the capital until 1255. The city, with its unique blend of intellectualism, mysticism, quaint landscapes and nestled between the Mondego river and University hill. An optional visit to the Johannine Library is offered, which the British newspaper, ‘The Telegraph’, named the world’s most astounding library. It houses an incredible collection of over 200,000 books displayed on beautifully ornate gold leaf shelving.
