Just a 40-minute drive from Chania, we will reach the scenic village of Topolia, set within a tree-lined gorge. Rising 300 meters above us is the impressive gorge wall, with the quaint chapel of Agia Sofia nestled inside a cave.
Take a moment to admire the intricate stalactite formations and enjoy the breathtaking views of the gorge. At ‘The Romanza’ canteen, you can savor a variety of authentic Cretan dishes and treats. Look out for local villagers in traditional Cretan attire, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich cultural heritage.

- Chrisoskalitissa Monastery - Visiting the Monastery of Chrisoskalitissa is a must on our excursion. According to legend, among the 90 steps leading to the top is a Golden Stair, giving the monastery its name. It is said that only those free of sin can see this elusive staircase. Today, the monastery is still cared for by dedicated nuns.
The panoramic views from the monastery are truly breathtaking. Situated 285 meters above sea level, this site exudes tranquility, blending natural beauty, spirituality, and historical significance.
Please remember that appropriate attire, covering both knees and shoulders, is required for entry into the monastery.
After spending half an hour soaking in the monastery’s ambiance, we will head directly to the beach to continue our journey of discovery.
- Elafonissi Beach - When we arrive at Elafonissi around midday, prepare to be captivated by one of the island’s most beautiful beaches. Located along the southwest coast, Elafonissi features a stunning mix of white and pink coral sands, creating a tropical paradise. Head to the right side of the beach to find a small enclosed lagoon with shallow waters, ideal for families with children.

- To visit the Monastery, you must wear modest clothes: for women – a skirt/dress under your knees and covered shoulders. For men – trousers, T-shirt with long sleeves.
