Next, we ventured to The Pottery Garden, where the earthy scent of clay and the sound of the potter’s wheel greeted us. Karl Burnett, the island’s renowned potter, welcomed us into his world, sharing his passion for pottery and the unique techniques he has honed over the years. Watching him work was mesmerizing, each piece a testament to his skill and dedication.

As I tried my hand at the potter’s wheel, I couldn’t help but think of the waves I ride, the way they shape and mold the shore. Here, in this tropical garden, I found a similar rhythm, a dance between the artist and the earth. Browsing through the studio gallery, I picked up a small keepsake, a reminder of this unique experience and the creative spirit that thrives on Tortola.

Embracing Island Life

With the guided tour complete, we were given two hours of free time to explore at our leisure. I took this opportunity to wander the streets of Road Town, the capital of the British Virgin Islands. The harbor, dotted with sailing boats, was a sight to behold, a reminder of the island’s reputation as a yachting hub.

As the sun began to set, our guide returned to take us back to the hotel. The day had been a perfect blend of culture, creativity, and relaxation, a true reflection of island life. As we drove back, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to explore Tortola in such a personal and meaningful way.
