Awesome experience! - Our Airbnb host arranged for the green turtle nesting tour with this local co. It really was a once in a lifetime experience! Our guide Brandon spoke excellent English and led us to two turtles in the process of laying eggs!! This seems to be less common to see this year since the turtles are impacted by weather. We learned so much about the various stages of the birthing process and other interesting facts about the turtles and their environment. Our small group witnessed each turtle lay her eggs, cover and camouflage the nest and return to the sea. Brandon is an excellent guide - very knowledgeable with great communication skills. Highly recommend you experience this for yourself!

Laying sea turtles - Tortuguero - Night out with Luis in August 2024 to observe the laying of sea turtles in Tortuguero. Very easy contact via WhatsApp to inform us of the time slot we have been allocated. Very punctual pickup at our Pension. Quite an extraordinary experience. Luis was very pedagogical to give us very strict rules to respect to access the beach and be able to admire the turtle without disturbing it. Group of 10 people. Many explanations so that we understand the different stages of laying. Walk quite rhythmically before arriving at the site, for a good 15 minutes by torchlight and running pace. But once there what a spectacle of nature! Thanks to Luis for the perfect support, very professional and serious.

Very good experience - Luis made the experience as special as we imagined, told us a thousand curiosities about the turtles and their environment, solved a thousand doubts and we were able to spawn a green turtle as well as other turtles entering and leaving the water. All this, respecting the animals and the environment around them.

Luis & Don Chico are the BEST - We took the canal tour in the morning and the green turtle tour later that night. Both were fantastic but the green turtle laying eggs on the beach was extraordinary. Luis was so good as our guide. He was very very good at explaining what was happening that night and how we should expect/hope to achieve - in Spanish and English. He prepared us as to what to where and what not take on the tour . No flashlights, camera, watches, etc. as any light could disrupt the turtles from laying eggs on the beach. Luis was fully prepared for any contingency and was very protective of his clients but mostly of the turtles. That night we had to get to a section of the beach that wasn’t nearby so he had made arrangements (ahead of time) to get us to a waiting boat to zoom us there. A turtle was found getting ready to lay eggs but complications required Luis to change strategies and he found another turtle at the perfect time and we witnessed the turtle laying many eggs! Luis made sure that all the clients in his group took turns getting very close to witness this miracle without disrupting the turtle. It was an extraordinary, inspiring, once-in-a-lifetime event that I will never forget. I can not recommend Luis/Don Cico Tours enough. So knowledgeable, prepared, and inspirational.

Heartfelt recommendation!! - The tour with Luis and his wife was just great! We were picked up at our accommodation and asked directly if we applied mosquito spray. Also the possibility to buy water on the way was suggested to us. Shortly before the beach Luis explained all the rules and advised us that we might not see a turtle either. However, we were very lucky to be able to see one and observe it throughout the entire process. We had the complete tour over a very safe feeling, Luis and his wife always had the group in view. He explained a lot about the life of the turtles and repeatedly reassured himself if anyone had any questions. All in all, just great! GREAT RECOMMENDATION! PURA VIDA!

Experience 10 - We did the turtle-watching tour with Luis and it was a success. Luis explained everything in very detail and was charming throughout the experience. He always conveyed his passion and respect for animals. We would definitely repeat!

How something usual becomes a surprising and emotional experience - Luis worries at all times about seeing each of the steps a turtle takes to spawn. Also, super attentive to the group (8) and concerned about the care of the species. We had Lucky enough to watch two spawnings simultaneously for an hour or so. It's important to note that you may not build to watch one, or you may have to wait a few hours until you do. What yes, you always look worried that you will take more than expected.
