• Kitain - Begin your journey at one of Kawagoe’s renowned Buddhist temples. This temple is notable for its Pagoda, sections of its main hall built from the original Edo Castle in Tokyo, and its 540 Rakan statues. Rich in history, it’s a must-see in Kawagoe! Enjoy a guided tour and take some time to capture photos and explore the grounds at your own pace.
• Kurazukuri no Machinami / Warehouse District - A 15-minute walk will bring you to Kawagoe’s ‘Old Town’, the heart of the city. Here, you will have a guided tour of the ‘Old Town’ and its notable sites. Following the tour, take a lunch break to savor the various drinks and foods available!
• Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine - Next, visit one of Kawagoe’s most famous and picturesque shrines, known for its matchmaking blessings. Many visit to seek good fortune in love and relationships. Your guide will provide a tour of the Shrine complex, highlighting its unique features and history. You can fish for your fortune, stroll through a beautiful ‘Ema’ tunnel (wooden fortune plaques), and walk around 600-year-old sacred trees believed to offer spiritual enlightenment. Behind the shrine, the serene Shingashi river, home to Koi Carp, is adorned with Cherry Blossoms in Spring!
• Kawagoe Castle Naka no Mon Remain - The final stop is the remains of Kawagoe’s flatland castle. The well-preserved structure and rooms allow you to walk the halls and envision life during the Edo period when the Shogun (Samurai) ruled. Collect a castle stamp as a complimentary souvenir of your visit!
• Kurazukuri no Machinami / Warehouse District - Before departing Kawagoe, enjoy some free time to visit any remaining attractions, shop, take photos, and pick up final souvenirs before regrouping to walk to Kawagoeshi train station. The Kawagoe City Museum and Kawagoe Matsuri Museum are excellent additional attractions to explore beyond the tour.
