CUSCO - PAUCARTAMBO - SAN PEDRO CLOUD FOREST - PILCOPATA

Humedal Lucre-Huacarpay - After picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 6:00 am, we head to the Lucre wetland in our transport, where you can spot some migratory birds. We then continue our journey, enjoying the stunning views of Cusco’s mountains and valleys.

Chullpas de Ninamarca - This pre-Inca archaeological site features tombs made of stone and mud, where the Quechua and Lupaca people placed their mummies. Although the tombs are now empty, you can still see the enclosures.

Paucartambo - Around 10 am, we arrive at the town of Paucartambo. Here, you can stroll through the typical colonial-era streets and squares. This small town seems frozen in time, with traditional markets selling fruits, vegetables, and other foods.

Abra Acjanaco - We officially enter Manu National Park at this highest point of the trip. Our guide will explain the various species that inhabit the Andean grasslands.

Manu National Park - After crossing the Acjanacu pass, we descend along the paved road towards the Pacchayoq waterfalls, making several stops to observe different bird species like the cock-of-the-rock, golden-headed quetzal, and toucanets, as well as tanagers. In some forest areas, you might also see woolly monkeys, capuchins, and squirrel monkeys.

Pilcopata - At 5 pm, we arrive at our first-day hostel in the town of Pilcopata, which has a very tropical climate at 500 masl. The accommodations are double rooms with private bathrooms. Dinner will be prepared by our cook.

HUMMINGBIRD GARDEN - ATAYALA PORT - MACHUWASI LAGOON - JUNGLE WALK

Manu National Park - After breakfast, we visit the hummingbird garden, home to some of the 50 species of hummingbirds in Manu National Park. At 9:00 am, we reach the river port of Atayala, where our motorboat awaits to take us to our second family lodge. We have lunch at 12 pm, then visit Machuwasi Lake, where you can ride a wooden raft. In the afternoon, we walk back to the Manu River and cross it by boat. At night, we take a one-hour night walk to see Amazonian wildlife such as frogs, scorpions, and tarantulas. We spend the night at the lodge, accompanied by the sounds of crickets and cicadas.

RETURN TO CUSCO

Manu National Park - We rise early to witness the fascinating parrot and macaw clay lick, where various species of parrots, parakeets, and macaws gather each morning to collect clay. Afterward, we return to our hostel for breakfast. At 8:00 am, we take a motorboat back to the port of Atalaya, where our minivan will pick us up. We ascend again towards the San Pedro cloud forest. Lunch is at 1:00 pm in the town of Paucartambo, and we arrive back in Cusco at approximately 5:00 pm.
