Highlights
  • Riserva Naturale Saline Di Trapani E Paceco - The tour begins at via admiral Staiti n101 (fire brigade barracks), near the port. In just 10 minutes, we will arrive at the first salt mine, “Maria Stella,” where we will see the first mill constructed in Trapani. Next, we move to the “Chiusicella” salt pan, where we will explain the process of cultivating integral salt and observe flamingos, herons, and black-winged stilts. The final salt pan visit includes entry into an ancient mill over 600 years old, now a museum, where we will learn about the historical tools, their functions, the significance of salt in this region, and the differences between past and present practices. We will also taste salt crystals and the highly prized fleur de sel, both natural and flavored with orange, lemon, rosemary, and oregano. To conclude, we will take a scenic walk through the salting tanks, known as “the path of the salt maker.”
