Simien Mountains National Park - Begin your journey with a warm greeting from our driver or guide at your hotel or Gondar Airport. Travel to the Simien Mountains National Park via Debark, the park’s headquarters town. In Debark, take a brief pause for a quick coffee and experience the vibrant local market. Then, proceed to the park, stopping at the Chilkuanit viewpoint for a stunning panoramic view. From here, the car will drop you off and transport the chefs and camping gear to the camp. Bottled mineral water and a packed lunch with fruits will be provided. You will then start your trek to Sankaber with the local guide and scout. This 4-hour hike offers the chance to see various plant and bird species, as well as hundreds of Gelada monkeys. Conclude the hike at the camp where the chefs will have set up tents and prepared snacks, including tea, coffee, popcorn, and biscuits. Enjoy a snack, take a walk to spot animals at sunset, and savor a delicious camping dinner by the warmth of a campfire. Camp overnight at Sankaber, situated at 3250m above sea level.

Simien Mountains National Park - Trek from Sankaber to Gich
Wake up to a beautiful sunrise and enjoy a hearty breakfast. Packed lunches and bottled water will be provided for the day’s trek. You will be accompanied by a scout and a local guide who will ensure your safety and offer valuable insights throughout the journey. We have hired mules and experienced mule handlers to transport your luggage and all necessary camping gear for the remaining five days of the trek. While you hike with your daily essentials, the mules and chefs will take a shorter trail to reach the campsite ahead of us. Upon arrival, they will be waiting, having already set up the tents and prepared a refreshing snack for us to enjoy. Embark on a scenic 6-7 hour trek through beautiful landscapes, past the stunning Jinbar Waterfall, and encounter various wildlife such as Gelada monkeys, bushbucks, and a variety of bird species. Take a picnic break at Jinbar River before ascending to Gich camp, located at an altitude of 3600m.

Simien Mountains National Park - Day 3: Trek to Chenek - Mt. Imetgogo Highlights, Mt. Inatye
After a satisfying breakfast, embark on a short hike to the nearby peak called Mt. Imetgogo, offering the most spectacular views in the Simien Mountains at 3926m above sea level. Enjoy the stunning vistas of the surrounding mountains before continuing your trek via Mount Enatye 4070m above sea level to Chenek. The trek will take approximately 9 hours, depending on the group’s fitness level. Arrive at Chenek camp, located at a higher altitude of 3620m. Along the way, spot the Ethiopian wolf, one of the endemic and very rare mammal species.

Trek from Chenek to Ambiko Camp via Mt. Buahit 4430m above sea level

Simien Mountains National Park - Day 4: Climb Mt. Buahit and Trek to Ambiko Base Camp
Challenge yourself as you climb to the summit of Mt. Buahit 4430m above sea level, the second-highest peak in the park. Descend to Mesha River, trek up to the base camp of Mt. Rasdejen in Ambiko, and experience a total of 10 hours of trekking. This day involves challenging uphill and downhill climbs, with elevations changing by 800m and 2000m respectively. Rest well in preparation for the summit day ahead.

Today is the day you conquer the highest peak in Ethiopia, Mt. Rasdejen, standing tall at 4543m above sea level. Wake up early for a 3:00 AM breakfast, depart at 4:00 AM, and embark on a 5-6 hour trek to the summit. After enjoying the breathtaking views, trek back for 3-4 hours and have lunch at the peak of Mt. Rasdejen.

Simien Mountains National Park - Day 6: Descend to Chenek and Return to Gondar
Descend back to Chenek, retracing the route from the 4th day. Once at Chenek, our vehicle will be waiting to drive you back to Gondar. You have the option to either stay overnight in Gondar or take a late afternoon flight to Addis Ababa, depending on your schedule. The package deal with us will end in Gondar.
