- Trengereid - After traveling for just over 30 minutes, it’s time for a brief pause. We stop at the Trengereid viewpoint, offering a stunning view of the East Fjord and Osterøy island. Here, you’ll find a small bakery and public restrooms. We will stay for 15 minutes, with a 45-minute drive to our next destination. On the way to Steindalsfossen…
- Trengereid - After traveling for just over 30 minutes, it’s time for a brief pause. We stop at the Trengereid viewpoint, offering a stunning view of the East Fjord and Osterøy island. Here, you’ll find a small bakery and public restrooms. We will stay for 15 minutes, with a 45-minute drive to our next destination. On the way to Steindalsfossen waterfall, we pass two more waterfalls, Mørkhølsfossen and Fossenbratte. If the weather is favorable, we can make a quick photo stop.
- Steinsdalsfossen - The Steinsdalsfossen waterfall near Norheimsund is truly a sight to behold. You can walk behind the waterfall without getting wet, offering a unique view. Formed in 1699 when the river changed course, Steinsdalsfossen stands about 50 meters tall. A path leads behind the waterfall, providing clear access to the space between the rock face and the cascading water, making it one of Norway’s most visited waterfalls. Tourist information and public restrooms are conveniently located at the parking area. A short path over an old stone arch bridge leads to the waterfall. If desired, you can take a break at a charming café just behind the bridge, where you can enjoy the soothing sound of the rushing stream. We will spend 25 minutes here, with a 15-minute drive to our next stop.
- Oystese - We arrive in Øystese around 12:15 PM for our lunch break at Spildegarden Sider Farm (included). The lounge is warm and inviting, complete with a fireplace, and offers a stunning view of the Hardangerfjord—a quintessential Norwegian experience. If the farmer is available, he may give us a tour of the cider production process. For those interested, there is an opportunity to purchase cider and other farm products. We’ll spend about one hour here before continuing our journey, with an estimated 45-minute drive to our next stop.
- Hardanger Fjord - After a picturesque 45-minute drive along the stunning Hardangerfjord, we arrive at the ferry terminal in Kvandal. This route takes us past idyllic villages, lush orchards, and breathtaking mountain backdrops that frame the fjord.
Our ferry departs at 2:00 PM, and the crossing takes only 20 minutes. As we board, we have access to modern amenities, including clean restrooms and a small kiosk where snacks and beverages can be purchased.
From the upper deck of the ferry, you’ll have the opportunity to capture incredible photos—the views of the majestic mountains and the deep green water are simply spectacular. The gentle waves and the wind in your hair make this ride an unforgettable experience. Keep your camera ready and enjoy the fresh sea air as we carefully head towards the next leg of our journey.
- Kvanndal ferjekai - The crossing from Kvandal to Utne takes only 20 minutes. Upon arrival in Utne, you can either stay in the van or walk the 50 meters directly to the Utne Hotel. You can’t miss it; it’s right across from the ferry terminal.
- Utne Hotel - The ferry then docks in Utne. Step into a picturesque wonderland as you arrive in the enchanting village of Utne on the Hardangerfjord. Here, you will find the Utne Hotel, established in 1722, which is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Norway. Nestled by the stunning fjord, this charming hotel offers a glimpse into the region’s rich history and provides a cozy atmosphere for visitors. During our visit, we’ll enjoy a stop for coffee and svele, included in the tour price. It’s the perfect spot to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings.
- Hardangerfjord - The route from Utne to Jondal is a scenic drive along the Hardangerfjord on road 550. The distance between the two towns is about 36 km, and the drive takes approximately 35 minutes. Along this route, you get the feeling of driving through a blossoming orchard, as cherry and apple trees line the road closely. We can enjoy the beautiful scenery and admire the typical orchards of the region. This trip is highly recommended for anyone looking to explore Norway’s breathtaking nature. We will make photo stops along the way as often as weather and time permit.
- Herand - We take a break in the village of Herand and stop at a small marina, beautifully situated on the Hardanger Fjord. There is a self-service kiosk and also public washrooms. The onward journey to the ferry quay in Jondal is only 15 minutes.
- Jondal - The ferry from Jondal to Tørvikbygd departs promptly at 17:20. During this crossing, we traverse the main arm of the Hardangerfjord. Onboard, you’ll find facilities including restrooms and a self-service café for your convenience. The journey across the fjord takes a brief 20 minutes.
- Tørvikbygd - At 17:40 the ferry docks in Tørvikbygd. From here, we make our way directly to Bergen.
- Bergen - The drive back to Bergen takes approximately an hour and a half, with an estimated arrival at your hotel around 19:15. Most restaurants in Bergen close their kitchens by 21:00, giving you ample time to find a suitable place for dinner. We can drop you off directly at your hotel or at any other location in the city center, depending on your preference.
